1. I think Nate Silver just wrote a profile on Connecticut

I think he pointed out that because of the presence of a large number of wealthy people and Wall Street folks who reside in CT, while it will remain a blue state in Presidential elections, it is not likely to vote Democratic by the huge margins of some of the other blue states.

2. She is carpet bombing the state because she has tons of money and it depends which poll

you look at. She leads in Quinnipiac and Chris Murphy leads in PPP. It will be close. But CT is not Mass or VT or RI. It has never been as liberal as those states. We had Republican governors from 1995 until last year. I would say it is a moderate to liberal state.

We do have a lot of rich people here, particularly in the corner of CT near NYC. Lots of Wall St. people commute from there but it is very disconnected from the rest of the state. However, that area does not traditionally go Republican. I actually live in the reddest part of the state in Litchfield County in the northwestern corner of the state near Mass. It is more rural, lots of small towns there. Not as much money there as in Westport and Greenwich area. It votes much redder then the rest of the state, at least in the past. So the money thing is kind of not true.

Linda McMahon simply has a lot of money and Chris Murphy is less well known and has less money.

4. There are some towns in Litchfield County that have Democratic strength.

I raised money there. But they weren't nearly as showy as the Greenwich folks who would throw big parties (I worked for Planned Parenthood at the time and historically PP had a very strong Greenwich base among the wives of the very rich). My boss at the time used to joke that the people in Litchfield County were New Yorkers who came there to hide.

I loved it that there were some little spots there that didn't have home mail delivery, so people preferred going to their little P.O.s to get their mail.

Washington Depot was one of my favorite spots there...very lovely town...I also liked Woodbury.

But boy, the drive from New Haven seemingly took forever!

5. I went to Washington last spring with my daughter for a field trip.

It was to the The Institute For American Indian Studies. It is a very beautiful area. There is some Hollywood stars who live in this area and some Wall St. types. But there is also a lot of blue collar types.
Harwinton, Goshen, Sharon and Kent are all really pretty places and I love to visit them. But yes, the drive is long from New Haven. I grew up in Cheshire so I didn't know much about this area but the house prices in Terryville/Plymouth were so much better then the Cheshire area. Worth the extra snow we get every year!

New Haven when I visited donors and volunteers in Washington and Washington Depot...

Litchfield County has always been my favorite part of CT, besides New Haven. Such beautiful little towns...picture post card perfect!

6. DSCC is transferring money to Murphy, I believe
Tue Sep 18, 2012, 09:39 AM

I think there's an article out this week explaining that the DSCC has been taken by surprise by how close Connecticut is, the same way the RSCC was apparently taken by surprise by the close race in Indiana, and they are both sending money to these 2 respective states.

In retrospect, do you think Murphy is a weak candidate? Should the Dems in Connecticut have gone with someone with more name recognition? Perhaps it was kind of taken for granted that this would be an easy win and people assumed whoever got the nomination would win.

Now it turns out this is going to be a close fight. I think Obama, Biden and Bill Clinton or at least one of them, needs to take a swing through there.

bad videos they had up, so they knew what was coming. Time for the big guns of the Dem Party to come to Murphy's aid. He's a very good guy and I'm going to volunteer for his campaign. My hope is that we can have Bill Clinton come here to campaign for him.

WE NEED THAT SENATE SEAT!!!

I don't think - he has survived some tough battles for his House seat. The problem is that he's being outspent by a bigger margin than Obama is vs Romney. I'm guessing it's along the lines of Romney vs RW Republican of the Week during the primaries.

10. She's running some good negatives on Murphy

Might be having an effect, plus she has so much money and has become more visible since the last time she ran.
I think she has a really good shot at winning this time.

Everyday for the past week we have received HUGE 11x14 size heavy stock fliers in full color bashing CHris Murphy. SHe has more money than she knows what to do with. On top of that I counted one night 4 commercials in about 45 minutes. I could be wrong, but some felt longer than just 30 second spots. She is more aggressive now than she was in 2010.I can;t stand the woman.

I've yet to see a Murphy commercial on TV. Granted, I don't watch a ton of TV, but I still have no problem seeing McMahon commercials all the time. And, I get a flyer in the mail from her nearly every day, despite being a registered Democrat and having recently moved. (yes, it's addressed to me, not "resident" or similar)
