2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAndrea Mitchell is now declaring that "13 Hours" will undo Hillary
There is a movie coming out this week that is the ultimate "Benghazi!". While admittedly factually inaccurate, "it's a movie" she declares. Even though facts are on Hillary's side, the release of the movie is incredibly bad timing when Bernie is rising in the polls. Even a Hillary supporter she interviewed acknowledged that the timing is very bad and that the movie will hurt her image.
I'm reminded of how American Sniper made a "hero" out of Chris Kyle and only now are we seeing any kind of refutation against that with Obama's shutdown of his widow during the town hall on gun control.

(85,977 posts)...which was just a step above the actual footage staged of the brutal display of the dead soldiers - as if the exploitation of the embassy deaths by republicans and the right wing wasn't offensive enough.

(31,781 posts)We were supposed to 'not respect' Andrea (at best) because she's married to Greenspan.
Or - is it -
We can only respect her when she says something someone at DU agrees with?
Funny - eh?

(2,978 posts)It's sickening for people to exploit the deaths of those men to drum up hatred against her.
I disagree with her neoliberal politics and her military strategies, which are part of a greater sickness of global capitalism that is destroying this planet. I think she generally means well but is really misguided and that moving beyond the politics of corporatism in which both parties participate is one of the most important struggles in human history, given the stakes.
Having said that, she is not responsible for the deaths of those men and to make a movie about is just gross, just like those bumbling idiots questioning her for 11 hours was gross (but mostly embarrassing for them, which was admittedly enjoyable).

(22,308 posts)She knows her stuff in regards to foreign policy.
As far as guessing the impact of a movie on the electorate, I think she knows about as much, or as little, as anyone else.

(24,411 posts)Yes, her inner core will stand by her. But don't count on Independents voting for Hillary.
Poll after poll shows that her support with Independents is extremely low. She also has high unfavorables with Independents.

(53,016 posts)are now celebrating their candidate's appeal among Republicans and independents.
The reason that Sanders polls well is that NO ONE has run against him. NO ONE. The GOP is in full force against Clinton. "Progressives" are in full force against Clinton. No one has gone near Sanders. To imagine that if he were the nominee that would hold up in the face of GOP ads about his claims to being a socialist is absurd.
And honestly, as much as you all might value the votes of centrists and right-wingers over Democrats, the fact is Clinton is far more popular than Sanders. He trails Clinton by 31 points in the polls. If he can't even get anywhere close to half of the votes for the nomination, he can't get votes in the general election. And as much as you all are hoping the Trump voters will abandon the Donald to register Democrat and vote for Sanders, there is no indication that is happening, and I can't see any motivation for them to do so. They have a far greater chance of influencing the GOP than the Democratic nomination.

(30,247 posts)Personally, I'm not worried. Sanders will probably win NH and may even win IA, but those two mostly white rural states do not represent the rest of the nation. This is not 2008 and Sanders is not Obama. When all is said and done, I still think that Hillary will be the party's nominee.

(7,865 posts)No. This film will only affect those that will already be voting in some other primary.
Bernie will win because of the issues. Simple as that. When people hear him speak they get excited.
