A bullet hole was discovered in a storefront window at the Bernie Sanders campaign headquarters in northwest Las Vegas on Thursday morning, the same day the Democratic presidential candidate was on site, Metro Police said today.

Officers responded just before noon to the campaign office at 815 South Rainbow Blvd., near Alta Drive, authorities said. Police said it appears a bullet went through the window but declined to comment on whether a shot had been fired.

More at link and the comments section is interesting.

How do we get Bernie to get serious about security? Donald Trump has SS protection. Why doesn't Bernie who draws by far bigger crowds than any of the candidates on both sides. I worry about his safety.

2. I really doubt that Bernie needs your help to "get serious about security."

He's a grown man who knows exactly what his situation is and does not need his supporters to tell him what he should do. He will request Secret Service protection when he sees fit.

Now where is the general report by the rest of the media?

Just think how they would be all over this, if it had been
the Dumpster's headquarters.

A caller from Las Vegas pointed it out. It seems no national media has picked it up, but if Donald Trump gets a manipedi it's all over the media forever.

8. Not to be overly cynical, but it would look bad to request protection, and be denied

If earlier on the Sanders campaign requested it, and got denied because, for example, of a reason like "If we give it to Sanders, we have to give it to everybody". The implication being he's just another guy with dreams of having a serious campaign.

They don't give that protection away.

Donald Trump is getting, then we, his supporters, need to figure out a way to give him the security he needs.

His plausibility, to the establishment, is pretty recent, Trump has always had a decent chance of being the Republican nominee*.

I agree with your sentiment but I see why the Secret Service can be said to following procedure. There are some intangibles here that make things complicated, I grant you.

Gore had protection early on for his run, and former First lady Clinton gets hers. Gore was a sitting VP, and Clinton is a former first lady. It's a good question as to how drastically her protection got ramped up because of her run. It's a seriously major perk, now.

If a solid majority of the public decides this scenario goes against the ideal of fair play, then the President might decide to inquire about it. This isn't a totally unique situation, I imagine even Nixon and Pat Nixon had a detail when he ran in '68, but imo the Secret service should weigh everything about this.

*I just googled, and it seems Carson was also given Secret service protection. I realize the extra risk he faces, but that adds to the number who are getting protection, three, and unavoidably raises the risk of appearing to slight Sanders. Given how they're polling, it can look unfair to exclude the guy who trounces Trump in some of the latest polls.

Edit: Added a comma after "establishment"

who meet the following criteria:

Be publically announced
Have some degree of prominence as shown by opinion polls
Be actively campaigning and entered in at least 10 state primaries
Be seeking the nomination of a qualified party
Have qualified for matching funds in the amount of at least $100,000
Have received contributions totaling $10 million

Bernie meets those criteria.

Who receives protection?

The Secret Service DOES NOT determine who qualifies for protection, nor is the Secret Service empowered to independently initiate candidate protection.

Under 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7), "[m]ajor Presidential and Vice Presidental candidates," as identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security, are eligible for Secret Service protection.

Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major presidential and vice presidential candidates:

Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee
The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others

Criteria have been established to assist the DHS Secretary and the advisory committee in their decision making (as of 2008). Candidates must:

Be publically announced
Have some degree of prominence as shown by opinion polls
Be actively campaigning and entered in at least 10 state primaries
Be seeking the nomination of a qualified party
Have qualified for matching funds in the amount of at least $100,000
Have received contributions totaling $10 million

Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) states that the U.S. Secret Service is also authroized to protect spouses of major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, as identified by the DHS Secretary, within 120 days of the general Presidential election. Some candidates have received protection earlier in the campaign pursuant to Presidential memoranda.

At least one misspelling.

Bold added by me. It says what the candidate must have, not that protection must be given. It says that protection is authorized, not that it must be granted.

Knowing him. I wish he would get protection. It's not just the RW nuts he has to worry about now. He's going to win Iowa and NH. That's dangerous for TPTB.

our Right Wing Yellow Rags are not going to follow up one this. And Metro seems to have a policy, that if you have a Store Front or live in certain areas, good luck, you are going to receive free drive bye bullets. Had that been on the strip, every news outlet in the world would be all over it 24/7.
