"Why don’t women have coins or dollar bills with their faces on it?"

The little girl who asked Obama last year why there aren’t any women on U.S. bills has finally gotten a letter back from the President — and she’s invited to the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.

“I was studying Ann Hutchinson, who stood up for women’s rights,” she says. “Almost everyone who chose a boy, on their poster they had pictures of different dollar bills or coins with their person on it. So I noticed, why don’t women have coins or dollar bills with their faces on it?”

For a while, Sofia didn’t hear anything back from the President. She says she “sort of forgot about it” until her dad showed her the President had mentioned her letter in a speech. “I was really excited about it, because I thought that maybe it would actually happen,” she says.

In the months since Sofia wrote to Obama, a campaign to put a woman on the $20 bill has gone viral. The W20 movement is hosting an online poll so the public can vote on which woman should replace Andrew Jackson. The group plans to petition Obama and the Treasury Secretary to make it happen. Almost 220,000 people have voted in the online poll so far. And Sofia, who is now in fourth grade, is a junior ambassador for the campaign.

Woman on the dollar coin. Now if they were specific and said paper money then ok, "let's get it done".

Actually there are two coins with women on them.

The Sue B Anthony dollar coin as well as the newer Sacajawea dollar coin.

Is this even serious. Kate Upton? That is about as sexist as it gets. I can't see someone being exploited like her and being put on money. Susan B Anthony was of course on the dollar for awhile. I don't see why there is not some kind of movement to have more women on money. Not just coins that they know will be discontinued either. It's not like it's that hard to choose from great women...Clara Barton, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman. I think these symbols matter and you have to reach young people to stay relevant. I don't why you could not add Michelle for instance. She has done great things with the diet and food program for young people. I would even think Chelsea Clinton would be good, just to inspire people to do things. Maybe there is a waiting period for a person to be out of office or dead? Not sure. Women are even over half the population and they are on nothing. Jefferson is on two forms of currency and he was actually an exploiter of women (but did some great things too).

That Kate Upton is a woman. If she's not I apologize. If she is, how is it sexist to want a woman on American currency?

I think it would be great to have women on money. Other county's currencies have women on them.

Canada used to have Queen Somebody's face on theirs.
