"A bit agricultural really, not as pretty

nor pleasing to the eye." A male tennis commentator at the Australian Open about 10 minutes ago speaking of Angelique Kerber, a perfectly lovely young woman and a professional tennis player who won her match today (I think she did, he never mentioned anything but her looks). I think I about blew my brains out of my ears when I heard that and my husband could not believe he heard it. We backed up the TV and listened and yes, that is what he said when asked about her game. After all, they are not really trying to win and if they are (isn't that just precious?) it does not matter. They are only there for the men to look at.

It is bad enough when ESPN has Tracy Austin on who speaks about their boyfriends, husbands, babies, dresses and then whines about their confidence in her arrested little 12 year old, pigtailed voice. This was by far one of the worst things I have ever heard and I have heard plenty as the years go by, always about the women.

I am so upset right now I just had to put it down. I will be sending a letter but I kinda doubt any of them care.

this is happening too much, and it is important it is pointed out.

pornification.

so much porn, and in all the non harm, even healthy it does , the basic element is women there to be mens candy. when conditioned to only look at women in this manner, it effects all life.

a man years ago on du, that was addicted to porn told me this is what bothered him the most in his experience with porn. that after a time, he would look at all women, with the eye of his porn. this is the way women are becoming in this society in all ways.

i think it is important you do this.

i was watching something last night hubby turned on. was a young woman actin like a little girl. all girlsy. cutsey voice. and first it was rolling eyes. then it was.... stop. tell her to stop. she is making a fool out of herself. really, not pretty, cute or anything else.

it is embarassing.

she is not "pretty" in the classical sense? Actually she is very pretty. She is one of the newer players, and there are a bunch of new women players, so I don't know them by sight yet. I haven't the slightest clue what that means.

Is it a new classification for women? Jesus, all I know is I was not surprised by sexism although it has gotten a tiny bit better in tennis, but the way he said it. It was like, "I would give her a 5 on looks." Very matter of fact like it was simply OK to talk about her looks rather than what she was there for. I am going to keep my ears open.

I found no email site and no way to message from their email page so I commented in the Recommend box. Their address is there for snail mail and I will send that too. I have never written anything like this in a Recommend box and am a little worried what might happen to my FB page but it is worth it. This was disgusting.

If you have FaceBook go to their page and comment if you like. The more people who do the less chance they will just delete it.

Agricultural. I did not want to post anything in the public area because I would hate for her to see that or know that someone said that. On second thought, she could probably take him if she wanted to

Sad he thinks female tennis players are there for his visual enjoyment. I would get angry but I consider his opinion to be irrelevant sexist pigism.

10. I try to stay relatively politics free and free of controversy

on my FB page. I tried it the other way and it just was a mess. I use it to keep up with friends, even a few teabagger friends who I wish did not post stuff that pisses me off but oh well, but I just could not sit here and stew over this.

This attitude about the women athletes has always pissed me off. The camera angles that point down their shirts as then bend over waiting for a serve. I don't watch other sports but assume it is as bad there as it is here. It had gotten better for a while. Even Johnny Mac had to stop saying women did not deserve to be paid as much as the men and making nasty comments about some of the women. I have not heard that for a while from him. Wimbledon finally started paying women the same as men and do not require ALL the women working the tournament to wear dresses anymore. It has begun to be a better place for women.

So, my little rant is posted. I have been trying lately to be less involved in stuff that pisses me off because I can't seem to recover from this pneumonia and getting upset makes me breathe funny. I could not let this go, still can't even though I have posted it everywhere I can think of now. It may be a small thing in the larger world but it is a part of it that makes it difficult to advance in equality.

11. That POS mag Esquire

Has disingenuously written an article about Megan Fox 'trying to not let her sex appeal burn her out while writing this, according to this blogger; (the Esquire article doesn't start out bad for about the first 5 words)

Lena Dunham, Adele, Lady Gaga, Amy Adams All Very Ugly, Says "Esquire"

OH YES. "And women no longer need to be beautiful in order to express their talent. Lena Dunham and Adele and Lady Gaga and Amy Adams are all perfectly plain, and they are all at the top of their field."

Actual words, typed consecutively, and somehow published. Despite the obvious questions—how the hell did poor Amy Adams get wrapped up in that claim!? And also "how soon is Adele going to BEAT YOU TO DEATH?"—I also… I… I don't know where to start with Stephen Marche's half-profile of Megan Fox for Esquire. I thought the mens' mags had moved on from hiring ghouls—I mean, smart ones even!—to be ghoulish about women and their value. I thought the age of OMG WOMEN HAVE BREASTS, SOME ARE SO PRETTY, WHAT SHALL WE DO was over.

Here's a great half-baked thought: "Because creativity is, was, and always will be sexual." Or… "Today, unfettered sexual beauty is an impediment." To be fair, I certainly find that's the case for me. People just don't take me seriously due to my unfettered sexual beauty. I'm like a wild horse that everyone wants to ride but no one can tame! NO FETTERS EVER.

Anyway, here, enjoy: in the words of Esquire's SEO: "Read more: Megan Fox Cover Interview – Megan Fox Sexy Photos – Esquire."
http://www.esquire.com/features/megan-fox-photos-interview-0213-2#ixzz2I98IK1f9

it ends with the biggest clunker imaginable. Spoiler: he goes to town with the fact that her son is named Noah. LOL.

Oh look wait, they also have a Paul Giamatti interview today. That's so weird how they don't talk about his unfettered sexual beauty or lack thereof.

I love the first comment. "Christ. I'm going to have to start outsourcing my hating; I simply can't keep up with the demand." Change the word hate to anger and it could have come from my mouth.

LOL, Don't know who Megan Fox or Adele or Lena Dunham are. Just an older lady here steaming on this winters day over something that should have been over long long ago. I do so love the line, "I thought the age of OMG WOMEN HAVE BREASTS, SOME ARE SO PRETTY, WHAT SHALL WE DO was over." Yeah, what about that? I don't know about you but I never really noticed that being over but perhaps it might have been better? Not that I ever noticed but then I am in Kansas, most things never change here. Why you can still get a pat on the head (or ass) with the patronizing Little Lady thrown at you now and again. I can guarantee that once you say and do that to me you never will consider doing it again.

Back to the steam. I doubt I can make enough of a stink for the Australian Open to even notice and talk to this asshole. Still, it is always worth a try and I could not live with myself if I did not.

Best of luck; Australian feminists are pretty badass, maybe they'll pick it up as well.

I might have to give in and get a Facebook account, just to be part of spreading the word on these idiots.

who lives in Australia. I am waiting for her to pick this up. Hopefully she will run with it on her page as well. She puts up with no crap at all. That should get that ball rolling.

My roll tonight as I watch is to get the guys name. Once I have that I can target a little better when I write. I wonder if the WTA would have anything to say about it? I kinda doubt it but you never know.

The guy either needs to hear about this privately and stop the behavior or he needs a good public shaming. Not that I am always into that kind of thing but this was a public humiliation of the player so I feel no need to be easy with this asshole.

But male sexuality in terms of beauty is rarely presented as vulnerable and sexual only, although that's changing a bit in male magazines like "Detail"-- which is, of course considered metrosexual.
