A lovely, poetic message from tumblr: "for every man who looked at me twice"

writingsforwinter:

On the streets I no longer meet homeless women
worrying about where the next can of soup will come from;
now, I meet women who carry their keys like brass knuckles
instead of unlocking mechanisms. The first boy I met
kissed like I owed him a favor. The first man I shook
hands with looked through my clothes
like a security scanner at the airport.

I just wish women weren't so often treated like goals or conquests. redqueen Jun 2013 #2

my POV is pretty much 180 from that. I grew up with three sisters. Two older and one 10 years younger. Having grown up in the 60's the objectification of women was the norm but it never felt right to me. I was lucky enough to share 29 years with one of the brightest and most caring woman on the face of the earth.
I pretty much look at all women as the better part of me. I wish that was more the norm.

But unfortunately, the preponderance of women who insist that since they're women and they like it that its fine.. and the fact that their opinions are the only ones given any consideration (it always helps when your opinions fall in line with those in a position of power). I doubt it will stop anytime soon.
