'Rape Culture' Is Just Drunk College Sluts Lying, Says Major Magazine

Hey gals, gather around for some Real Talk: did you know that America's college rape epidemic is all in our jungle juice-addled slutty imaginations? At least, according to a column posted by US News & World Report, it is.

In a column called "The Rape Epidemic Doesn't Actually Exist," (a real title for a real post on the decomposing website corpse of what used to be a major American magazine), Caroline Kitchens argues that "rape culture" is nothing but flawed statistics and angry bitches who hate men. Seriously.

Since last spring, an expansive network of student activists has emerged to fight "rape culture" and change the way universities respond to cases of sexual misconduct. However, as universities reexamine their sexual assault policies, administrators should be wary of the demands of these "rape culture" activists. Not only is their movement built on a foundation of dubious statistics and a distorted view of masculinity, but it has already led to policies that have proved devastating to those who have been falsely accused.
First of all it's just adorable that Kitchens believes that the anti-rape culture movement on American college campuses started LAST SPRING. Apparently she's unfamiliar with Take Back the Night, or Susan Brownmiller, or the uproar over what happened to Lizzy Seeberg, or the entire history of the women's movement in the US prior to the spring of 2012. But getting caught up on Kitchens' laughable lack of understanding of what we mean when we say "rape culture" distracts from the worst part of her shitpile argument: that rape culture isn't real. Why? Because the statistics prove it's not!

1. the women that are now stepping up and letting us know we are responsible for our own rape, if it is

even rape, but probably not even rape is interesting. we get a little traction on going after the rapists, those putting videos on the net to further humiliate their victims, going after towns that are hiding the rapes or protecting their rapists and now we have the women to tell us it is really our fault and doesnt exist. certainly is not the good ole boys fault for his biological NEED.

convoluted sentence, i know.

these women are the women we regularly fight who are so immersed in the patriarchy and defending it with all their might, even selling out their sisters.

different reasons. but the agenda is there. be it the reward for them with the patriarchy, their own conditioned thinking, the innate sense that women are inferior or less or all that given to the fickle woman or a fear that that raped girl is them or possibly can be.

we see the exact same behavior here on du, from the same people regularly. with the same stance always. to always defend what ever behavior from men. to always deny the victimization of women.

there is not the same strong dynamic in the other "isms" i do not believe. maybe the outliner. but not a norm. maybe so. i will have to think about that.

6. how about calling women like that what they are:

Aunt Phyllises.

Every minority group has its individuals who help the dominant group keep their own people down.

Would really be great if using some term like that for women who sabotage their own Sisters became a thing....

Well, guess it takes a big tipping point for women to get unified and angry. We're so trained to be nice, for one thing.....

One thing...it does seem like the sheepdips here are much fewer than they used to be, like in the DU2 days....
More people get it, compared to then. At least it seems like that to me.

7. Handmaidens of the patriarchy.

Or just Handmaidens for short.

They believe that male dominance is the natural order, that gender norms and gender roles are innate, etc. and they enthusiastically help maintain the nonsense.

This is contrasted with women who simply haven't shaken off their internalized patriarchy. I used to be like that (as were most of the liberal feminists I know who later turned radical).

2. "angry bitches who hate men"

Wow. I have to post here because I've been put into that category before, especially during my divorce proceedings years ago. And no, I don't hate men. Women who have been raped are just drunk college sluts lying or "angry bitches who hate men." That makes me sick. Caroline Kitchens should be ashamed. That BS was in US News & World Report? What garbage!

4. Raping an "angry bitch who hates men" is still a serious crime...

...and is still morally reprehensible. So I don't know where the writer thinks that argument gets her.

3. If the columnist is right about declining rape rates...

...doesn't that suggest that these public education campaigns might be working? Perhaps guys are internalizing the anti-date rape message. If so, then now is the time to ramp it up and wipe out rape culture as a cultural norm altogether.

Out of all the sexual assault cases I prosecuted, only one was by a stranger on a victim of opportunity. All the rest were by someone the victim knew. Often, the children were minors. I can remember only two that were actually violent, but they were both very bad. In one of them the victim recanted, but fortunately we had the emergency room physician testify. Even in the nonviolent cases, the victims are always pretty messed up emotionally afterwards. I used a lot of Pepto-Bismol in that job.
