Anti-rape culture campus group ups the ante with Homecoming rally
F**kRapeCulture demands change as it did during last year's Homecoming march, asking for better police response to sexual assault
By Conor Morris

Exactly a year after their first rally on the Friday of Homecoming Weekend at Ohio University, the activist student organization F**kRapeCulture marched through Athens this past Friday. Just as they did during FRC's first rally, speakers for the organization made a number of demands of both the university and the local and university police departments.

Hoisting colorful banners in the chilly air, pronouncing slogans such as "'no' does not mean 'convince me'" and the phrase, "don't get raped," with the word "get" and the "d" in "raped" crossed out, a crowd of roughly 100-150 student and community protesters marched up Mill and Court streets, with numerous journalists covering the event following in their wake...

...The Homecoming rally was the second of two FRC rallies so far this year, on top of a similar protest Oct. 2 when FRC members carried a mattress across campus in solidarity with the Columbia University student who carried the mattress she was allegedly raped on around her campus...

..."We started right in this very spot last year," she said. "And we had three demands: we wanted amnesty for students who were drinking underage during the time of their assault, sexual harassment training for all student workers, and consent and sexual assault training for all incoming freshman. Police chiefs respond to concerns over handling of local sexual assaults
By Conor Morris

For the first time since the group's creation last year, members of Ohio University activist student organization, F**kRapeCulture (FRC), met with both local chiefs of police in Athens last week.

Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle confirmed that he, Ohio University Police Chief Andrew Powers and organizers from FRC met Tuesday to discuss concerns the group has voiced about how both police departments treat victims of sexual assault, and how the two agencies investigate crimes of sexual assault and rape.

Pyle said Thursday that he was aware of FRC's concerns, and of a public Google Drive document that FRC has kept, which solicits information from survivors of sexual assault on campus...

...The document lists four incidents, all involving the APD, where alleged survivors (the document is free to post on anonymously) detail stories of treatment that they felt was inappropriate on the part of Athens Police officers, from allegedly encouraging a rape complainant to make a statement while intoxicated to treating victims insensitively, or ignoring them, during ongoing investigations into their alleged assaults....
