1. You cannot un-alert.

If you didn't provide any explanation then the most likely response will that the jury will leave the post. If it results in a 0-7 leave then you will not be able to alert any other threads for 24 hours.

3. It arguably deserved an alert for having a 3264×2448px, 1.9MB image file in it.

But there is no undo function for an alert. No harm, no foul - it's not like that post would be hidden or locked.

I should also note that the link you posted displays a 'Your alert was sent' message when opened, but it isn't really sending an alert - you have to go through selecting the type of alert, adding a comment (optional but recommended), and clicking the 'Send alert' button.

that one is sending a new alert every time someone clicks it.

Change it to this one...same post, just no alert-sending.
