(9,385 posts)I had no idea you were nearby. Cool.
I moved a ways further out I-70 west in the mid-90s, after 15 years in Howard County (Columbia and West Friendship). You don't have to say but I'm going to guess Owings Mills.

70 to 29 to 40 to here.
Been here 33 years. Maybe moving a little west soon. Maybe not.

(9,385 posts)In fact I lived there briefly too - up near the courthouse, and also down near the bridge at the end of town.

(135,060 posts)Was born in Baltimore! My mom and I lived in Towson when I was a babe til a tot and was lucky enough to visit the area often due to relatives and living in NoVA. I'd forgotton all about Hon bit until I watched a Kitchen Nightmares Episode.
Here is a link to the video
¬snip¬
Taped last November, the "Kitchen Nightmares" episode featuring Cafe Hon is expected to focus on Whiting's year-long struggle to defend her trademarking of the colloquial term "hon" for her business. The climax of the taping weekend was the Nov. 7 press conference at which Whiting, accompanied at Cafe Hon by the show's host, Gordon Ramsay, announced her intention to relinquish the trademark. "I'll take it off the register," Whiting said. "It was never mine to have in the first place.

(9,385 posts)Mad, I love running into Towsonites. Ok, that needs a big hug.
No, a bigger one... hugs for all in this thread... (love this vid)
Thanks for that link, I watched the whole thing. I had heard about the difficulties with Cafe Hon, but hadn't watched the show before.
Ya, you don't mess with the locals, especially the ladies. Noooooooo. Wow, Denise Whiting was a train wreck. Leave it to a British chef to fix it.

(26,117 posts)Great post and great photos! (the Polaroid looks like an album cover)
When I got to your 3rd paragraph, I was thinking "you should write a book..." - then LOLed when I got to paragraph 5 and read that you've heard that before.
Waiting For Everyman
(9,385 posts)Thank you so much. I've been told I look like a gunslinger in the polaroid. Album cover, I like better.
Ya know, I doubt that I have the energy anymore to write the book. We'll see though, maybe someday.

(9,385 posts)I wish Dave was around, he'd remember such things. I'm not sure after so long, but I think so. I do remember that Newman hadn't raced much yet, he was just getting into it as I recall. That day was such a muddy mess, but it was fun.

(4 posts)Hi from down in Crownsville. Your life sounds like it's been full and interesting!
Love the first pic -- Polaroids were so much fun and could give unusual effects, long before there was Instagram.
Waiting For Everyman
(9,385 posts)Wow! How great is that?! Yes, those old polaroids could be surprising -- as I remember, I think the day before I had driven through somewhere tremendously hot... 100 degrees or something crazy like that... that might've affected the film Just a guess though.
So you're near the Renaissance Fair, then, if they're still being done?
So glad to meet you, twinster!
graphicnomad
(4 posts)Yes, the Renaissance Festival is still here. Every weekend from Aug-Oct, we have to drive on the "secret" back routes to get out of town because the main roads are clogged.
I like going to Towson - the Towson Town Center is a favorite mall, and the state fairgrounds (for the Sugarloaf Craft Show and International Gem/Jewelry Show).
And it's too bad our name is out of fashion now - it's always been classic.

(5,649 posts)I somehow never thought you were a woman!
Nice to meet you!
Waiting For Everyman
(9,385 posts)Yup, not only a woman but a short one. With a big attitude! (Hopefully not all the time.) Kinda like Barb Mikulski (so I like ta think). I love that woman! I wish she could live forever and never leave the Senate.
Very glad to meet you, Karen!

(12,132 posts)for about a year around 1970. I was in 2nd grade I think...pretty sure we moved back to Florida by third grade...
but my cousin still lives in Pasadena. I stayed at his place the last three Memorial day Weekends when I was in town for the Maryland Death Fest. Didn't get to go this year but I hope to go again in the future. I love it up there...I live in Florida now but still think MD was the best seafood I've had.
Thanks for the post and the pics. Don't bet against a good next chapter - we just celebrated my grandpa's 91st birthday and he's going strong. He joked they renewed his driver's license for 5 more years so he's got at least that long. And he does still drive - better than I do.
Waiting For Everyman
(9,385 posts)Oh, Pasadena is a cool area... so close to the Bay. We used to go swimming there when I was a kid, it was a much shorter drive than the ocean.
Right. on. grandpa.! Good for him, still driving at 91. That's some spirit!
Thanks for the kind words OriginalGeek, glad to meet you and I'll look forward to seeing you around.
