I need help understanding what I've done to break the rules

I've had several posts removed in the past few days, and I don't understand why. I went over the rules again, and I still don't know what I did wrong. Since the posts are gone, I can't go back and look at them to see where I messed up. Is there a way I can retrieve removed posts, not to repost them but to examine them so I can try not to make the same mistakes?

Understand, I'm not questioning the rules or that I broke the rules. I'm sure I did, if my posts were removed. I just need to know specifically what I did wrong, so I won't do it again.

I would not bother with this except that it's happened so often lately. I really need to know what my errors are.

Thanks for any help.

1. Hmmm.. I had one removed the other day. It still shows in "My Posts" but

with the message "Post Removed" and an explanation of why.

3. thank you both

but I still can't find the offending posts. I'm hoping a mod will help me out.

Or it might be that post removal is a little capricious, depending on how the jury feels that day? I don't generally even *think* the content that is ruled out, much less post it.

Maybe it's my difficulty with self-expression.

But I would like to know.

2. If a post removed by a jury...

...the post shows in the thread as "post removed". If you are logged in and the post is yours, there will be a "show my post" link next to the the "post removed" subject line. Click it.

4. Just relax and view the site more as entertainment. Otherwise, it may be frustrating for you.

We live in a swipe left/swipe right world. If what you're posting isn't the product viewers came to this site to consume, it's unsatisfying for them. Sometimes, hitting the "report post' button is the only power people have been able to exert all day. So, they do it. It isn't personal. It is unfortunate, though, if you've spent time writing it.

The best advice is to not put much effort into posts here -- at least until you get a better sense of what is going to be shot down. If your expectation is actual engagement, it just isn't going to happen to the degree you might have hoped for. DU is more of an echo chamber -- which can be okay, once you see it as such.

6. thanks

I've pretty much come to the same conclusion. I was here before under a different name, then when we were hacked I had to re-register, so I've been here a while.

It's funny that I got so many posts removed in so short a time--I guess someone has a bug up their ass.

7. what surprises me

is that so many folks seem to miss the joke, or maybe my jokes just aren't very funny. The unexamined life is not worth living, as my grandmother used to say.

I do enjoy posting here and especially reading what others post. I count on DU for updates almost hourly.

8. You can send an appeal to the admins if you think your post was removed unfairly

Admins sent you a PM that told you your post was removed. In that PM you should see a link to appeal.

9. Thanks

I did request an appeal, no response at all. I'm going to forget about it and chalk it up to ?something? I can't control.

10. Well, we don't have mods anymore

And jury verdicts can be unpredictable, though it looks like your removed posts were on the same subject, but no one can see them now except for the admins. I think your best bet if you want an explanation is the ask Skinner himself in Ask the Administrators.

11. Thanks

When it happens again, as it will, I'll try Skinner.
