Woo Hoo!

I can now post new discussions! I feel so privileged, I might have to buy a car elevator!
I'm a dam* liberal living in the Memphis, TN area. I am, alas, married to a conservative. But, I'm trying to bring her around. You would think that someone born in a town called Liberal (KS) would be more left-leaning. She did however say that there was no way she could vote for Romney, so that's something I suppose!
Anyway, happy to be on DU - I love reading the posts and the replies. It's great to know that there are so many like-minded people out there!

I like to think a conservative is someone who hasn't yet experienced their political philosophy on a personal basis.

We have met and become friends with a number of lesbians in this area and my wife has now come to the realization that they should have the same right to marry as anyone else. It's interesting to see how she has changed now that she sees gays that obviously are committed to and love each other.

Yes, there are lots of like-minded people here -- and we're always looking for more. Somehow, we still find plenty of things to disagree about.

I'm married to an independent (a real independent, not someone who doesn't want to admit he's a Republican) so I know what it's like to be married to someone who's not a Dem. It's survivable, if frustrating at times.

My girlfriend grew up a Republican but she's not a right wing nut. I too have chipped away at her little by little. Just pointing out that Republicans did this and Republicans stand for that has made her more and more liberal as the days go by. Sunshine is a great antidote to conservatism which thrives on anger, paranoia, ignorance and bullshit.
