Hi. I've picked the name Lookingfortruth because that is what I'm doing.
Got a lamp in my hand trying to find an honest politician. I know it seems to be a fruitless search-well, almost, I do like Senator Sanders and wish we could clone him about 525 times.
I consider myself progressive. I am stuck in one of the many small towns of Western Pa that seems to be too conservative for this gal. Hoping I can see universal health care system in this country and better pay for everyone.

(101,158 posts)Some people see enemies everywhere, and can't understand that not everyone has seen the exact news stories they have. I'm sorry you got a couple of those people having a go at you.
If you're a fan of Senator Sanders, then I think you'll like DU.

(31,922 posts)and that's about the only politician I'd say that about. Universal health care would be a great start. Welcome!

Edited to add: I just read the thread where you were mocked for asking a question. For what it's worth, I didn't know who Corey Booker was, either, and had to ask my husband. I try very hard to keep on top of it all, but sometimes, there's just too much stuff to be "in the know" about every little thing.
Please don't let the people who were uncivil to you run you off. We were all new once and I was scared to post my first post back in 2003 because I was afraid everyone would mock me. No one did back then and I'm very sorry that it happened to you.

(49,778 posts)Welcome to DU and I am very glad you decided to give us another chance! I am Canadian and I also hope there will be a day when the US has a universal health care system. If (When!) it happens, my advice is to guard it jealously and know it will be a constant fight to keep it, we are fighting that fight more so than ever right now.
Oh, and I love Senator Sanders as well, he has my greatest respect.

Right now, as this is a new forum, it is far busier than I expect it will be in a week or two, so things could get lost. If you don't get an answer, kick your own thread and see if that helps!
Again, welcome.

(9,791 posts)PA is a strange state. We've been characterized by James Carville as Philly and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between which sounds about right to me. I've lived in Northeastern PA my whole life. I'm a coal miner's granddaughter, daughter and wife. There are some right-wing teabagger types around here but the majority is Democratic. Progressive is a stretch.
I agree with you about Sen Sanders. Too bad we don't have some clones in the state house here in PA. I wish I could offer you some hope at finding an honest politician but I don't think it's possbile. I just try to figure out who are the least corrupt.
Thanks for sticking around. I think you'll be glad that you did.

(8,556 posts)And FYI, there are 535 people in Congress, as well as a few more non-voting delegates form the territories.
But I agree with you. Universal health care and better pay sound fine by me.

(203,041 posts)If that's what you're looking for, you'll find more of it here than most places. I've been here for nine years and I've learned more than I could possibly say. And despite your initial impression, the folks on DU are the most helpful and generous folks on earth. So glad you decided to stick around...
