DU Community Help
Related: About this forumHello everyone! My name is ScreamingMeemie (Laura)
I joined DU in 2003 (as MrsGrumpy) as a 32 year old, frustrated and angry housewife. At the time, my daughter (DUer WannaBeGrumpy) was 12 and my son was 4. I was (still am) a diehard Deaniac and time has made some of those Primary battles seem like fun. Okay...not really. I wove daily DU visits into the fabric of our lives and DU helped turn my Libertarian leaning husband into a more active Dem than I. I have enjoyed meeting DUers in person and have found that we really are nice people, especially in person. In 2007 my husband passed away and the care and concern we received online, and in person, from DU still blows me away. I can never impress how much that meant to me.
Shortly thereafter I went off the deep end a little bit and took a break from DU. But DU stays with a person. I came back as ScreamingMeemie and am glad I made that decision. These days, I am mother to a grown up (*sob)22 year old woman, a 13 year old son and am active in suicide prevention. My favorite group is the Sports forum, where you will often find me advocating for respect in trash talk, the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Tigers. My son is an avid Lions fan (how the heck did that happen?).
My tip is this: I have found that, should you find your blood pressure rising, take a breath, step back, don't post that thing you were going to post, and come back later.
This is an excellent forum. Thank you Skinner, EarlG and elad.

It is great to see you here and your advice about stepping back, taking a breath when needed is excellent, I know I have done that at times.
Edited to correct egregious spelling error.

(53,949 posts)Hey, I was going through some old photos and I found the one of you and your son in the shark jaws. Not the best picture (quality-wise...and you got your eyes shut. LOL), but I couldn't remember if I ever sent it to you.
from Oklahoma!

(68,918 posts)I don't think you sent it to me, although I do have a few group shots. We miss you down here! Maybe, sometime when I head up North, we'll veer off a bit for a little stop by to see you.

(68,918 posts)I wanted to drop the train wreck that had been associated with the name. Also, it gave people the idea that MrG was grumpy...and he really wasn't.

(21,596 posts)I was so amazed at the support that you and your family received from DU after your husband's passing. I have thought of you so often.
My (44 year old) father died suddenly when I was 17. It was such a traumatic event. I adored him and my world changed forever after his death. Looking back, my mom took care of us (two girls and a boy) while mourning our father/her husband.
You and your children have been on my mind for a while and I was so happy to find that you were still here. I enjoy your posts!
If you're ever in North East Georgia, let's meet up! Our past DU meet ups have included Ulysses, RubyDubyinGA, CatWoman, Mike Malloy and family and Kskiska (sp?) (who was the the first DU poster) among many others
Peace and happiness,
CB
