Dick's soaring sales prove it can succeed without assault rifles

Back in February, Dick's Sporting Goods made a bold decision to stop selling assault style rifles and high capacity magazines, and to raise the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21.

Executives there braced for pain. Instead they got good news.

Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) stock price surged by as much as 27% after it reported stronger than expected quarterly sales and profit Wednesday. It's the first measure of their decision to pull away from some guns.

"There's been a number of people who have started shopping us, or said they're going to shop us more, because of the policy," said Chief Executive Officer Ed Stack on an earnings call with analysts Wednesday. "There's definitely been some benefit of people who joined us, so to speak, because of the policy."

responsibility which is super rare in these times. Dick's should continue to be rewarded for their bold moves!

And this shows the power the American people have by financially supporting businesses that support our values, and that support us over profits, and our safety.

8. Because of Dicks policy changes i have taken almost all of

my outdoor purchases to the local store. Bought a kayak, camo clothing, personal floattation and will spend more as I need it (I photograph birds and wildlife). Every purchase is followed up with a customer survey and I make it clear that I shop there because of their courageous policy on gun violence.

Getting rid of military style assault weapons is a sound business policy.

They still sell guns and display a large sign telling their customers to secure their firearms.

Law abiding and responsible gun ownership is possible. There is no reason for 4.6 million children to have access to a loaded unsecured firearn.
