I have it on good authority that things are just ducky in the world of gun violence

because we're killing (and wounding) fewer people than we did 40 years ago.

Ya' know it somehow doesn't feel that way . . . Oh! wait, it's not!

Headline:Shootings never stopped during the pandemic: 2020 was the deadliest gun violence year in decades

Might it have something to do with THIS?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=&w=916

The fact is that we did reach an all time low on ONLY 4.6 deaths per 100,000 BUT over the next 4 years it grew by 40%. At that rate of growth we'll be back to 1990s numbers in less than a decade BUT there will be more people dead because we now have more people.

Shooting deaths in 2020 outpaced the next-highest recent year, 2017, by more than 3,600. The rise resembles other alarming trends: Last year, the United States saw the highest one-year increase in homicides since it began keeping records, with the country’s largest cities suffering a 30 percent spike. Gunshot injuries also rose dramatically, to nearly 40,000, over 8,000 more than in 2017.

“More than 100 Americans are killed daily by gun violence,” Ronnie Dunn, a professor of urban studies at Cleveland State University, said, using a figure that includes suicides. “The majority are in Black and Brown communities. We don’t really focus on gun violence until we have these mass shootings, but it’s an ongoing, chronic problem that affects a significant portion of our society.”

What the fuck is wrong with us?

NRA apologists and Second Amendment absolutists place having and worshiping a gun above all else. They do not care that over 100 Americans are needlessly killed every day as long as they feel safe and secure behind their precious lethal weapons. The gun cultists, and the corrupt politicians that they helped the NRA to buy, are directly responsible for the carnage on our streets, and the senseless gun violence epidemic that we all suffer through.

Support measures that will drastically reduce gun violence, and help to build a better nation for our children.
