NRA Video Promotes Ted Nugent's Fave Hobby: Shooting Feral Pigs From Helicopters

Josh Sugarmann Executive director, Violence Policy Center
Posted: 08/15/2013 1:50 pm

Remember last month when National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent bragged about shooting feral hogs in Texas with a machine gun from a helicopter -- and then "joked" about how he'd like to do the same to the residents of South Central (now South) Los Angeles?

For most people, the image offered by Nugent -- feral hogs, helicopters, and machine guns -- would be hard to imagine. Let alone how this could be viewed as a "sport."

But a new video sent out by "NRA Outdoors: Hunting & Fishing Destinations" in an email promoting just such a hunt (except with semi-auto assault rifles instead of full-auto machine guns) leaves little to the imagination.

------------

Most striking is that seeing what a feral hog hunt actually looks like, and knowing that he's a cheerful promoter as well as participant, Nugent's "joke" about gunning down "South Central" residents now has a dark visual resonance that amplifies an image that was already as depraved as it was disturbing.

Ted Nugent, despite his musical prowess and hard partying youth, has become quite a reactionary in his old age. His South Central comment is indeed racist. But one thing I find curious is why it's bad he's hunting what is essentially an invasive species. It's known that even a small population of wild boar can cause quite a bit of havoc on local eco-systems. Is it the method you disagree with or is it the hunting of the boar it self you find distasteful?

read the article? According to your profile, you are neither a Democrat nor a Liberal, so maybe the concept of wounding and maiming scores of animals for the publicity, and leaving them to die horrible agonizing deaths is beyond your grasp. He is not "hunting," he is engaging in a celebration of guns and cruelty to animals to promote the fucking NRA and its death-spewing policies.

The main point to this story is, however, the NRA asswipe Ted Nugent's "joke" about doing the same thing to South Central Los Angeles because of the color of their skin and the fact that they mostly vote Democratic. But then again you're not a Liberal so that little bit of information may not bother you.

According to this coward's earlier remarks, he should be dead or in jail by now because President Obama was re-elected. Musical prowess? Hard-partying youth? Reactionary? Bullshit! He is nothing more than a totally despicable person and a blight on humanity.

I've read the article and I've agreed that yes his comment is racist. Yes its also a grossly stupid one as well but his comment was not the main point of my post. All I did was ask for clarification on given comment in the first post.

If you know anything about Nugent's younger days than you know that he was a rather famous Rock n Roll musician who was rarely sober and liked to party with the best of them. My reference to him being a reactionary means I'm calling him a person who is on the extreme right. Yes he is also a shill for the NRA.

In Jail or dead? Certainly he's made remarks that were not advisable but what exactly has he done that merits jail time or the death penalty? If you mean the remarks he's made about Obama being assassinated than I suppose I can understand confiscation of his fire arms or perhaps some time spent receiving psychiatric treatment. But why does that merit hard time or being executed?

I've also seen video of him hunting the feral hogs from a helicopter. Perhaps you've seen different footage but I didn't see an over abundance of slowly dying hogs. Given the fact that he is shooting a pretty high powered weapon I have a hard believing that any hog suffered a slow death. Certainly not a practice most hunters I know agree with though. But if your looking to cull an invasive species I could see how it could save time.

Also, so what if I'm not Liberal. As I understand it I seem to be further Left than most Democrats or Liberals. I'm an Anti-Capitalist Syndicalist, most Democrats and Liberals aren't Anti-Capitalists. I don't mean it as slur I'm just not a liberal and well the Democratic Party is for the most part a pro-capitalist party. Calling myself a democrat seems to me contradictory in terms. What exactly is your problem with that? While I'm at it, what is the deal with your overall tone? I did not insult you so your apparent hostility is rather perplexing to me.

I never realized how sensitive Anti-Capitalist Syndicalists are, about "overall tone." Let's just say you're in the wrong group for a Ted Nugent salvage project. I'd refer you to Gun Control/RKBA on this, but there haven't been any Nugent rehab efforts over there either, not for a long time. Even Gun Enthusiasts have their standards.

As to tone, I got jumped on out of no where for asking for simple clarification to a comment in the original post. So excuse me if I'm a little confused as to why ?

Nugent's younger days: he shit in his pants to avoid military duty, and then bragged about it. He made the statement before the last election that "if Obama is re-elected I will either be in jail or dead" -- he is neither. He is a coward. He is scum. He does not "hunt" feral pigs from a helicopter, he just sprays them and leaves them to suffer.

From the article in the OP:

"Having watched the video, it seems that they just wound and maim a lot of hogs. Does anyone follow up and finish and or recover the injured animals. The anti hunting crowd will have a field day with this video."

And yes, you absolutely came here to pick a fight and to show your disdain for we Democrats. You are definitely posting in the wrong Group (see the SOP), and most likely on the wrong discussion board (Democratic Underground -- see the TOS).

Enjoy your stay, however short it may be.

find the time to read the TOS of Democratic Underground, allow me to draw your attention to this particular paragraph:

"Don't be a wingnut (right-wing or extreme-fringe).

"Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working within the system to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of political office. Teabaggers, Neo-cons, Dittoheads, Paulites, Freepers, Birthers, and right-wingers in general are not welcome here. Neither are certain extreme-fringe left-wingers, including advocates of violent political/social change, hard-line communists, terrorist-apologists, America-haters, kooks, crackpots, LaRouchies, and the like." {Emphasis added}

You guys don't know a damn thing about Syndicalism do you ? De Leonism is form of Syndicalism that while anti-capitalist does not advocate using violent means to bring about change. So it's reformist in nature, on top of that it advocates for political party to represent workers and unions. Something that the Democratic party is already doing. Nor is it a form of Hardline Communism. Is it farther to the left than Liberalism (in the American sense that is) yes but I don't see why that means you automatically assume it has to be Hostile to the Democratic Party. Last I checked there is a Socialist wing within the Democratic Party and you guys even have a group here for Socialist Progressives. So maybe you ought to go to do some research before jumping on my nuts for being a Syndicalist.

what does any of this "Syndicalism" garbage have to do with Gun Control Reform? Secondly, by your own admission you belong to a Far Left fringe group that does not support Democratic or Liberal values. I have no desire to "know a damn thing" about whatever brand of radicalism you are promoting, but your idol Ted Nugent might - so go try the RKBA Group.

I maintain that you are posting to the wrong Group, and the wrong discussion board. This concludes our conversation, and feel free to go spread your anti-Democratic venom elsewhere. Your only goal in posting to Democratic Underground is to disrupt.

Okay ass hat all I did was ask the OP the question and I would've been fine not bringing up my Syndicalism at all but you for whatever reason had to jump on me like a cat jumping on a mouse. You throw accusations at me and act all offended when I try to set the record straight. As for Syndicalism not supporting Democratic or Liberal values. That statement proves your ignorance. The entire point behind Syndicalism is achieving an organized and unionized working class so that they at least push their own economic needs. Last I checked most Most Liberals are pro-union. True, I am not a Liberal and no I am not a Democrat but believe it not you if do some research you would find that actually yes theres quite a bit that Syndicalists and Liberals have in common with regards to beliefs. But if you want to where the ass hat be my guest because like you I'm tired of this. Hopefully I won't have to deal with you again while I'm on here. How you became a Star Poster is beyond me.

Oh and for the record, Ted Nugent can suck donkey balls as far I'm concerned.

Related: August 30, 2013: Shemane Nugent, the wife of singer and NRA board member Ted Nugent, was arrested at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport after security discovered a handgun in her carry-on luggage. Airport spokesman confirmed that Nugent, 51, was taken into custody... Nugent’s attorney, said this was “an honest mistake” and that she “completely forgot or never knew the weapon was in her bag.” .. faces a $2,000 fine. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/reliable-source/wp/2013/08/30/shemane-nugent-ted-nugents-wife-arrested-at-airport-for-gun-in-her-luggage/

Imagine if aqtara al baquubby had made an honest mistake & completely forgot his handgun was in his carry-on bag, how understanding the texas rightwing would be, eh?

guardian: She told police she began carrying the handgun after receiving death threats. She is licensed to carry a concealed weapon.
Shemane Ann Nugent been married to Ted Nugent, an outspoken supporter of gun rights, since 1989. The Dallas Morning News reports that through July of this year security personnel at the airport had found 57 guns in carry-on bags

Let's find out how dallas in TEXAS repeat pro gun TEXAS handles this violation, as compared with new York city's 'draconian dastardly' plea to a misdemeanor & paying a ~2500 fine by offenders who carry concealed pistols into nyc airports, where a lot of gunnuts thunk it so unfair to even have the poor unwittingly armed offenders have to go to trial.

Now, feral pigs are a huge problem in much of the country. In New York even, the DEC has issued these rules: If you have any hunting license at all (including the one issued for squirrels and frogs), please shoot them on sight. You don't even have to pick them up, let alone eat them. They are a menace to the ecosystem almost on par with humans. They destroy and breed, and that's about it. The best way to do eliminate such an invasive species (instead of poisoning, which could kill deer and all the other small furry critters of the forest) is to shoot them with big, heavy bullets. This is where semi-auto SKS rifles and AK clones (but not ARs, the bullets are too small) shine through.

It isn't hunting. It isn't supposed to be hunting. It is a war, and it calls for the appropriate weapons of war. IMHO, feral pigs are pretty much the only reason to own such a weapon.

That said, I shouldn't have to say Ted Nuget is a racist who like a good redneck just might want to fuck the pigs, rather than shoot them (or both... I hear some people are into that). This is the kind of dipshit who gives everyone who owns any kind of gun — whether it's a black-powder flintlock from the 1700s; through my mom, who has a .22 rifle to get coyotes away from her dogs in a rural area; or a big ugly black penis enhancement used to spray shit — a horrible name.
