Georgia City Loses Battle Over Mandatory Gun Ownership Law, Affirms Right Not To Bear Arms

The city of Nelson, Ga., and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence have agreed to settle a federal lawsuit brought by the anti-violence group over a mandatory gun ownership ordinance passed by the city this spring.

Read the court filing laying out the agreement here. In it, the city commits to amending its ordinance in the following manner:

WHEREAS, many members of the City Council believe that possessing a firearm in the home is an effective means to defend residents and the community; and

WHEREAS. the City Council also recognizes that there are other means available to defend families and homes, and the Constitution protects the rights of Americans to choose not to possess a firearm or bring one into the home....

right-wing gun-hugging idiots expect average Americans to take them seriously about their insane interpretation of "Second Amendment rights?"

Just because they got a foot in the door with the neoconservative Roberts SCOTUS ruling in Heller, they think that they have won the "gunz for everybody" war.

This kind of asshattery will only hasten the demise of the obscene gun culture in this country, and not a moment too soon.
