Two-year-old dies after accidentally shooting herself inside Fayetteville home

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 2-year-old girl died Saturday afternoon after she found a loaded handgun and accidentally shot herself, Fayetteville police said.

Officers responding to the home in the 2600 block of Graham Road in reference to a shooting found the girl at about 12:30 p.m. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she later died.

Fayetteville police have not released her name.

Byron Brown lives next door in the duplex where the shooting happened.

"She would always come to to the fence line and play with my dog. Every time they walked by she would stop by and speak to us and everything," he said.

gun owner causes an "accident." Nothing to see here folks, because Second Amendment and My Rights, and Freedom. Friendly fire is just the price of Liberty.

according to the Gungeoneers it's just another "statistically insignificant" incident, and a small price to pay for NRA-promoted Second Amendment rights.

Usually the family gets a lot of donation jars at convenience stores and sympathetic local news coverage.

Glad someone somewhere cares.

Mileage may vary though. A couple did it in Tacoma, and went to jail. A police officer did it in Maple Valley, identical circumstances, didn't go to jail.

She meant the world to them. They took care of her. They loved her and everything and for something like this to happen. It's devastating," he added.

Umm hmm. Good responsible parents don't leave lethal weapons around. If they really cared about her, they'd have a gun safe or just get rid of them period. This isn't an accident where you turn your head for one minute and they fall into the pool or run out the door. According to police no charges have been filed and there have been no arrests. The investigation is ongoing.

"They've suffered enough" will be the excuse not to charge them. In a world where parents get their kid taken away for smoking pot, and said kid was murdered in foster care? Pot bad= guns good!

I posted this in the comments section. He does a weekly roundup of these types of incidents. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/10/19/1246961/-GunFAIL-XL

it was on DU for a while but apparently not any more.
i'm reading it and seeing one attempted murder and murder after another being written off as an accident. apparently these days you can shoot anyone and then claim it was accidental.

(or the cost of 1/4th of a good handgun, or 4 boxes of hunting ammo)

Cost of losing a child: Unimaginable for not-parents like myself.

Why is this so hard to figure out? Want to stop child shooting accidents without a constitutional amendment and spending billions for the government to buy up every single firearm and starting a bunch of sporadic insurrections?
