Here's what I think should happen in the realm of gun control.

1. Universal Background Checks, all firearms, handguns and rifles, should go through an FFL dealer background check.

2. Safe storage laws in the home when children are present and meaningful penalties for negligent deaths as a result of non compliance of such laws.

3. Mandatory training for the lawful use of firearms before first purchase.

4. Beef up the BATFE to go after corrupt dealers and citizens.

5. Strict regulations for CCW, IE: rigorous training on the lawful use firearms for self defense and the consequences of using said firearms.

6. National registration with the caveat that the database can never be used for confiscation.

7. Mag limits of 10 for handguns and 30 for long rifles. What's good for the govt. should be good for private citizens.

8. Repeal of all SYG laws, Castle Doctrine is quite sufficient for citizens.

9. I'm always open to other suggestions.

3. Not a bad list. I'd prefer tougher toting restrictions in cities and limits on gun acquisition.

Other ways to handle this would be significant taxes on gun accumulators, certain types of gunz, toting, etc. The tax money would be used to promote alternatives to guns, non-NRA training, Anti-gun culture ads, promotional efforts to teach young girls that gun fanciers are not desirable (Ok, maybe a bit much), etc.

aren't likely to vote for true Democrats.

Let's do what us right and best for society longterm. It worked for Australia in 1996. Too bad we didn't bite the bullet at the same time.

19. We won't if we keep proposing laws that won't stop gun proliferation and gun love.

A lot of the "practical/reasonable" gun laws don't do enough and are just kicking that can down the road. If we adopt every one of your suggestions, we'll still have 100 million more guns in a decade to deal with and tens of thousands more Zimmermans, Dunns, Reeves, Loughners running around armed when more folks come to their senses about the need to do something.

20. I agree that we, as a nation, need to do something,

but that something isn't alienating the 80 million or so gun owners in this nation.
Let's work together to pass what is possible rather than reaching for what's not feasible and losing what momentum that we could gain with reasonable and reachable gun control laws.

it's about self defense and most do agree with UBC's, mag limits, beefed up ATF enforcement, are you willing to alienate them for what's not reachable in the forseeable future?
I'm not. I would rather work with firearms owners, hunters and others to achieve what's possible than to piis them off and suffer the backlash.
Just ask William Jefferson Clinton how well that worked out in 94.

Especially, if they can still keep a gun or two. If they are into Kal-Tecs, strutting armed down city streets, stand your ground, support Zimmerman, and stuff like that, they are not likely a Democrat or Independent who would vote for a Democrat.

Withhold thier vote, more likely. I know that I will not support with money or votes those who will trample my or anyone elses rights. I give my time and money to individual candidates not the corporatist Democratic national party, therefore in my state,I will only help a pro 2A Dem contender. Luckily, here in the South they are easy to find.

Good to see you have paid attention to my repeated mention of NON NRA affiliated training.

32. No, a vote for a Republican is a vote for a Republican.

The Democratic machine needs to realize that merely being less worse than the Repubs does not entitle them to my vote. I find suffrage to be one of the greatest honors i have as an American and as such hold my vote, and yours as well, as a precious thing. I highly value my rights, and spend my votes to keep them. I also value many other things, and they factor in to my votes... I purposely live in a State where I do not have to worry about that and therefore can vote Democratic, just as i have since my first chance vote, which I did for Ann Richards, who though I disagree with on her stance about concealed carry, got my vote twice.

45. There is that NRA

lie again: "alienating 80 million or so gun owners in this nation." Bullshit! ALL gun owners do not agree with you or your "let's compromise" gunner stance. At least half of those American Liberal gun owners are supportive of gun control legislation that does not infringe on the intent of the Second Amendment as defined in Heller: self-protection in the home and traditional uses such as hunting. At least 40 million of those American gun owners are Liberal Democrats and responsible gun owners.

Nice try, but no cigar.

is a very subjective term, and you don't get to define it -- at least not in this Group. This Gun Control Reform Activism Group was formed to discuss ways of moving gun control legislation forward, and not to argue the merits of gun control.

This is not a war zone, nor are most folks faced with the kind of crud you see watching too much tv. I learned just how delusional gun fanciers are when the gungeon crew were talking about their red dot sights which are helpful if they need to clear a room. Sorry, Sked, half-assed gun restrictions aren't gonna solve the delusions these folks live under, and where we are headed with gunz in this country.
