Murphy breaks Senate tradition with high-profile stands

Yet more evidence that strong gun safety stands are not a guarantee of defeat by the NRA.

" With his fight for gun control, defense of the Affordable Care Act and clashes with President Obama on foreign policy, Sen. Chris Murphy broke with a Senate tradition that freshmen should be seen and not heard.

snip

He became a forceful critic of colleagues who would not support gun control, saying they were complicit in the slaying of 20 first graders and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. He also became Public Enemy No. 1 for the gun lobby by attacking the National Rifle Association with a series of reports. One showed the organization did not have much impact on the 2012 elections, despite spending millions of dollars. Another showed a disconnect between the opinions of gun owners and the NRA."

with common sense and guts. We need more like him, and fewer DINOs who kiss the right-wing gun lobby's collective asses because they're corrupt cowards.

From the linked article:

"This report is the first in a series of reports that Murphy will release on the ineffectiveness of the national gun lobby. Murphy has been an active leader on anti-gun violence initiatives. He recently joined six Members of Congress to introduce the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013, legislation that would ban certain military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. Murphy is also an original cosponsor of the Ammunition Background Check Act of 2013, which requires instant background checks for the sale of gun ammunition."

The general public, including sensible Democratic gun owners, are beginning to wake up to the fact that Second Amendment absolutists and their right-wing lobbyists, are responsible for a gun violence epidemic in this nation. This very vocal and radical minority has managed to spread false information about the Gun Control movement, and foster NRA lies in order to spread fear about "confiscation," which is right up there with the concentration camp bullshit. The pathetic few who dress up in camo and crawl around in the woods with guns (see Cliven Bundy) are a danger to themselves and to other sane Americans.

Support a gun control organization of your choice today, and also support Democratic politicians who are willing to stand up to the right-wing gun lobby. The tide is turning, and public opinion is changing about the need for gun control.
