Update on Dad

Two of my sisters and I sat down w/ mom & dad yesterday afternoon to give Dad the news about his CAT scan. His GP had told us that the next step would be for him to bring the images to an oncologist and let the oncologist take it from there (as far as verification and/or treatment) and yesterday Dad agreed that's what he would do.

As of this morning, Dad has changed his mind. He said he was afraid that if he went to see the specialist that they might not let him come home. We tried to assure him that they could not hold him against his will, but he said since he was feeling OK for the time being that he was going to hold off.

2. We the aging are creating so many problems for our children. Thank you for helping your ...

mom and pop through uncertain and frightening times.

I understand what this means from both sides: as a geezer myself now starting into geriatric issues and with a 90 year old father who wants to drive his bus sized motor home to Washington from Arizona, who btw, has a history of nodding off behind the wheel in the afternoon. I'm in Texas and my brothers who can't drive a big rec vehical have only been able to offer to ride along or follow in a car.

3. Yet another update

My sister Chris convinced Dad to see the oncologist. She convinced him that she would not let them keep him against his will, but that he should at the very least get more information than he has now.

I have to tell you that I was very torn between letting him run his own show and feeling like I needed to know more.
