We Need Weed: Veterans drop hundreds of empty pill bottles in front of the White House

Veterans drop hundreds of empty pill bottles in front of the White House
By Perry Stein * Washington Post * November 11, 2015

A couple dozen servicemen and women marched to the White House this Veterans Day and dumped a large box of empty pill containers, calling on the president and other federal officials to make medical marijuana accessible to veterans.

“Here’s what the over-medication of our veterans looks like,” they said as they spilled the canisters onto the floor. “We don’t want it.”

The veterans and protesters — affiliated with various veteran and marijuana advocacy organizations — argued that Veterans Affairs hospitals are over-medicating veterans, prescribing them a large number of psychoactive medications to treat PTSD. They marched from McPherson Square to the Department of Veterans Affairs headquarters, then to the White House, some smoking joints along the way, which is illegal in D.C.

VA health-care providers can’t talk to their patients about medical marijuana options, even in states where there are legal medical marijuana programs. A bill in Congress, the Veterans Equal Access Amendment, would allow doctors to provide recommendations about participating in such state programs.

Have lots of PTSD suffers in office, and it might be less of an issue. Too many politicians cloning Cheney's attitude towards serving. It's for those with less important things to do.

Take care of our veterans needs.

A buddy of mine who served in the Army once told me the best night sleep he ever got was when he was stoned. He's on several types of medications that he takes for various ailments including insomnia. Once I went into his room with the wife when we were visiting his family at the new house they bought. He sleeps on a mattress with no frame and its there where I noticed his collection of pill bottles.

"It looks like a junkie sleeps here", I said to my wife. She punched in my arm for my comment.

"Why'd you punch him for", he asked.

"He said that it looks like a junkie sleeps here", she replied.

He took a second to look at his bed, then looked at us and said, "It DOES look like a junkie sleeps there!"

Until my 54th birthday and I couldn't do it any longer as I had a foot that was about to burst. I had a DVT in my leg and spent a week in the hospital dissolving it.

I made it past the PTSD demon by way of weed, booze and psychedelics. I still have anxiety and an panic attacks and take meds for that, Klonipin. nasty shit but better than the alternative.
I left the glass containers by the way side about 7 or so years ago and the plastic bag a couple years ago. Although I still will take a toke from time to time just because.

My mode of healing was the best for me.

I've heard many complaints from various friends and acquaintances who don't want to set foot there. My buddy especially hates the drugs that they tried to put him, especially since he had surgery on his foot a little while ago. He would rather see the doctor my wife works for (geriatric doctor and internal medicine) and pay out of pocket.

It seems like everyone has their methods of taking care of themselves. Hope your state of mind improves.
