Traveling, looking for advice.

My wife and I live in the beautiful green state of Washington, and will be traveling to that state that is usually the point of reference in the Weird News group. We are in our 60's, my wife had never tried marijuana before, I hadn't used it for 35 years. But now we both have replaced some of our prescribed meds with wonderful locally grown organic pot. It sucks to be without for two weeks and go back to chemicals. We've thought about taking special cookies with us. But both of us don't feel the risk is worth it carrying it on the plane or in that soon to be underwater state.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Would very much appreciate it!

Plus I need to vent about the stupidity of making a simple plant so illegal, is there any other plant that is illegal just as it is, just f&@$ing growing in the ground?

I wouldn't try anything. I flew out of SeaTac in November and there were police dogs checking baggage as we waited to check our bags.

it's illegal to transport MJ interstate. I heard Colorado has amnesty boxes at the gates, but I didn't see any at SeaTac.

yes, most of the canines are sniffing for explosives, but there are a couple that are dedicated to drugs. They're mostly in the area of inbound international arrivals from South and Central America, but when they're not busy they wander up to the main terminals.

But I don't think the ones working TSA on domestic routes are looking for weed or anything 'druggy.' You don't want to overwork them--their noses burn out. They wouldn't have them wandering around an outgoing domestic flight sniffing and snuffling just for fun.

Besides, if the dog found a small amount of pot, it would not be a "federal" issue. They'd have to get the local cops--way more trouble than it is worth. There's jurisdictional issues. And in a place where weed is legal, what local cop is going to effect an arrest?

If they're working an international terminal, ARRIVALS, particularly...yeah, sure, I'd call those canines drug dogs. They're looking for cocaine and heroin.

They're not working domestic flights, though, unless they get a tip that someone is moving a lot of product along a particular route and they want to nab that person on a trafficking charge.

during down times, they wander up to the main terminal. I personally think it's more for good PR...the kids love the dogs. And I think the handlers have fun interacting with the passengers......kind of relaxing for them.

And if they aren't working, they aren't going to sit (and rat someone out).

Even if they're in the main terminal, it's not hard to avoid them. Just walk away. They're not going to chase you, and they aren't going to be in the sterile area, behind the security perimeter and the xray machines, unless they're looking for something. And on domestic flights, it's usually explosives.

I knew someone who used to like to put his pot in his Gold Bond powder!

Even if it was wrapped well.....well you get my point. Kind of "alters" the experience. If I remember correctly, Gold Bond is medicated. So not only do you feel well, but the medication kicks in.

bottle.

Probably the easiest way is to get some herbal pills, like milk thistle or something similar, at the vitamin store, pull apart the capsules and substitute weed for the herb contained within. Throw them in with the aspirin and the antihistimine and the sleeping pills and so on, and hide them in plain sight.

Another trick is to buy a pack of menthol cigarettes, take a few of the cigarettes and carefully roll them until you get the tobacco out, then replace it with a non-stinky pot and tamp it down smartly. Leave enough menthols in the pack to provide a plausible overlay of scent, then put the cigarette pack in a cigarette pack holder (one of those leather or vinyl cases that prevent the cigarettes from being crushed) and stuff it in your bag or purse.

I wouldn't chance it with anything. If you can score after you land, you're in your 60s in a rental car. I wouldn't stress it. The chances of your being searched are pretty slim. Granted, you don't have a ponytail/wear tye dye. Just my opinion.

having just lamented on the drive here about having to leave my weed at home. I hadn't thought about bringing edibles, but that does seem like a bad idea. Just go to any record store where you're going and look for the white guy with dreadlocks 🤘

We thought of mailing also, but as all of you have said, ya, just too risky.

White guy with dreads..., wife and I had a good laugh over that, but trying to score there is a good possibility, maybe if we start the conversation with "hey we're from Washington nudge nudge wink wink..."

I carry mine in with my makeup, after transferring it to a thoroughly washed makeup bottle with an eyedropper. Or into a Bach's remedy bottle (also cleaned out). It works great. Have never experienced a problem. But I'm careful enough not to take it on the plane, just in my checked luggage.
You could also order from an online source that ships to all states. Just google it. Then you can have it shipped to yourself using one of those mailbox type places.
