There's a lot of stupid vote east, north and west. It's just that the stupid vote not only affects the people who voted stupidly, but it affects and causes the rest of us to suffer too. I'm certain that all those people suffering from the incompetence in Michigan that let to the Flint disaster, did not vote for Gov. Snyder, but they have to suffer just the same.

I believe it's mobilizing people to try to neutralize it when it pops up.

I think there is a faction voting for Clinton that are united in their fear of an effective GE smear campaign against Sanders. Their hearts often lie with Sanders's policy ideas, but they're afraid to take it to the next level and actually vote for him. They're more scared of losing than they are excited about winning, really winning.

I think those fearful voters are wrong, because Bernie's message resonates with more voters and he has a better chance of prevailing in November.

I happen to live in a pretty liberal area of Tennessee and my neighborhood and city voted for Bernie, so I'm not very familiar with these voters, but it does seem to me like a lot of people are more frightened than they're willing to admit.

What makes this worse is that she actually does worse against the Republicans than he does - in fact she loses to all of them and only barely beats Trump. If they are truly scared of losing, they should be voting for him.

It is crazy. I have an anecdote. A young man was working for a City Councilman. The Councilman asked the young man to work with him on Saturday. He met the Councilman who then drove him to various businesses. At the stores, taverns, etc. the councilman asked the kid to go in and tell & tell them that he was in the car & bring whatever they had form out to the car. Each time he brought a brown paper bag.

The Councilman asked him if he was interested what was in the bag. The kid said NO, however the Councilman opened one bag and showed the kid a bunch of money and then stated, "Ain't America Great."

the votes. They preach to their congregations whom to vote for. This is a violation of separation of Church and State and they should have their tax free statuses revoked. Yet I hear our candidates being asked at last night's debate questions about God and what they pray for. There was no way they graciously could have told those people to mind their own business. That religious belief and prayer are very private for the most part. Of course Dame Hillary had been at the church of the woman who breached one of the questions by her own admission.

I don't want Christianity or any religion in my government. That takes us back to the Middle Ages.

In his campaign speech, the winning candidate for our city (pop ~500) council made it pretty clear that teaching evolution causes teenagers to riot and loot Wal-Mart stores. The nearest Wal-Mart is 20 miles away, and has never had a riot, so our handful of local teenagers must be very determined, to travel out of state to riot because they've been taught that they're savages.
Not only that, our town doesn't even have a f**king school in which to teach evolution--a routine maintenance bond failed, twice, so the school had to shut down. The school site is leased to someone who grazes goats there now.

I was shocked that Hillary brought it up in response to Bernie's criticism of her support for trade bills. It is a big corporate welfare boondoggle. Hillary trying to paint it as a small business thing was breathtaking in its audacity. Bernie said it is known in the Senate as "the bank of Boeing". It was great that Cooper followed up and said 75% of the Ex-Im money goes to large corporations.

But Cooper said 75% goes to large business which would leave 25% for small business, so that's close enough. The point is that it is primarily a giant corporate welfare boondoggle program. Bernie sometimes finds himself on the same side of issues like that with the likes of Rand Paul, and I have no issue with that whatsoever. Nor do I think most independents will and that's why I think the more closely people look at Bernie the broader his appeal will be.

92. Per the Congressional research service
Mon Mar 7, 2016, 09:14 AM
Mar 2016
...U.S. small businesses account for the majority of Ex-Im Bank’s transactions by number (89% in FY2014), while larger companies represent the majority by dollar amount. Ex-Im Bank reported that almost 56% of its total authorizations for FY2014 supported infrastructure projects.15

Ex-Im Bank has met its 20% small business target from Congress in some years, but has fallen short in other years, based on authorization amount (see Table 2). At the same time, small business transactions supported by the Bank constitute the majority of Ex-Im Bank’s transactions by number...

Bernie is speaking with more force and conviction and Hillary seems unfocused and angry.

She is changing the questions and answering what she feels comfortable answering.

Something has changed.

I think a lot of people may be looking and listening tonight and saying this guy is not as radical as I thought he was. I was thinking that particularly when he didn't pander on the gun issue where Hillary did.

The grad student pub at Rice University, Valhalla, used to sell pitchers of beer on Friday afternoon for $1.25 and people would sit on the law of the Chemistry Building. Beer was 25 cents a cup. I was in graduate school at another school then, in the 1980s. I don't know how much cheap beer is now.

I went to the Summer School for High School Students at Rice University and found out why the book store is named Sammy's... because Sammy the Owl is the mascot's name. Duh!!!

Another name I heard for the school: William Rice's Marsh. (Founder named William Marsh Rice. The butler killed him and James Baker's grandfather, founder of the Baker & Botts law firm, saved the estate to found the school. Back in 1900.

Canada plans to experiment with giving people unconditional free money

Finland and the Netherlands have already shown their interest in giving people a regular monthly allowance regardless of working status, and now Ontario, Canada is onboard.

While one kneejerk reaction is to argue that free money creates a lazy working class, research suggests the opposite is true. Supported by the financial safety net, people in one 2013 study actually worked 17% longer hours and received 38% higher earnings when basic income was given a shot.

http://www.techinsider.io/ontario-announces-basic-income-plan-2016-3

I wonder if Bernie will consider playing with this if he's elected and Canada's plan seems to be working. I also read in the Guardian that millennials all around the globe are experiencing the lowest wages since we've been recording this information. The recession, high home prices and rent, and low wages and globalism have all had their impact. Maybe it's time to look at home prices too, although so many people's wealth (if you can call it that) is tied up in their homes, it would most likely be impossible to try to make an adjustment to match incomes. We'll have to do it the other way...bring incomes up to match current cost of living.

I'm thinking that globalism has worked to lower wages in the US better than we even know yet.

There's no "there" there. She has no "center", and therefore, as W. B. Yeats wrote, the centre will not hold.

An extremely intelligent person with no core values or beliefs - other than her own survival, which she equates with accumulating endless amounts of wealth and power.

51. A few highlights from the debate

Mar 2016
Clinton is asked whether she supports fracking. “I don’t support it when any locality or any state is against it,”

Does she even know what she is saying? Does she not realize that states that are for it are for it for one reason only...jobs. They are desperate for jobs. If they all had good jobs they would not let anyone near their border with chemicals that poison the ground water, and pressurized wells that cause earthquakes.

Money makes people do a lot of things that are not good for them.

Bernie's reply:
My answer is a lot shorter, says Sanders, explaining that he doesn’t support fracking.

You don't support a bad idea just when it suites your purpose. Once again, Bernie demonstrates his consistently thoughtful decisions.

Sanders keeps up his assault on trade policies. Detroit went from being one of the richest cities in the 1960s to today one of the poorest. Wages are down even adjusted for inflation, he said. Clinton subtly raps him for focusing on the 1990s instead of the future and defends her husband’s economic record and the U.S. Export-Import Bank. Sanders calls it the “Bank of Boeing.” He says “Democrats have not always been right,” including “corporate welfare” and “disastrous trade policies.”

The issue is trade. Clinton touts her “clawback tax” to punish companies that move jobs overseas. Sanders takes a swipe at Clinton for “getting religion” on trade. He says he was out protesting with unions in the early 1990s to oppose free trade. Clinton counterpunches by saying that she supported the auto bailout and Sanders didn’t.

She is clueless. Without the trade policies and union trashing, we wouldn't have lost all the auto jobs in the first place.

Clinton said she’s supporting a program to pay people in Flint to deliver the water while the pipes are being fixed. As president, she said she would also concentrate resources for economic development, health and education.

Oh, how is she "supporting" the program? I can support it verbally too, does that mean I get to run for president? And she's only saying she will actually do something "when she is President"...is that some kind of ransom?

Bernie really did a nice one-up on the Hillary creature with his single word response to her blathering. She made a fool of herself with that one. And Bernie is the only candidate running who has the both the integrity and the intelligence to recognize the reality of global warming. Just imagine - the US with a president who wouldn't have excommunicated Galileo for heresy and actually listens to the concerns of almost every single scientist doing legitimate research on climate change today.

I agree that's it's all too seldom that we get the chance to choose a leader such as Sanders. He's like the bright light of a candle held high during one of this country's darkest times. I doubt that I will see his equivalent in what remains of my life-time. I'm going to do everything I can to help him win. He MUST win. He is our greatest hope. Go, Bernie!

He got a big round of applause for that statement and frankly I was surprised. I LOVE it that he is so honest and just says it. I can't think of any other candidate who woud say that about their own party. Maybe Trump but he'd say it with some sort of gross joke.

I've been kind of down about his chances since SC. I know he's had some good wins and it's still early in the primary season, but he really needs to win and win big in some of the larger states to start picking up steam on the delegates. The states that are coming up like Michigan and Illinois are going to heavily favor Clinton. He needs an upset in some of those states.

As long as Republicans support any trade deal you know it is wrong. Not one single Republican needs to ever release any kind of Wall Street transcript you know where they stand. Any Republican that wavers from supporting Oligarch's cannot be a Republican.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz or David Brock or John Podesta or Bill come up with some sort of Bullshit Republican move.

Debbie Wassermann Schultz has to go now..After the pay day loan give-a-way,the Caucus shenanigans, questionable vote counting I just don't trust her calling the shots in all these Primary vote counts and delegate assignments....I put here is the same class as Karl Rove,(hell she might be better than Karl now),Would she cheat for a Hillary win..hell yes she would..... Iowa,Nev,Mass so far ...
Iowa.... failed to allow the continuation of the audit after 14 precinct showed gains for Bernie.
Nev..Improper vote tallies, people allowed to caucus without registering,(hell some may have been from 20different states)
Bernie Sanders Votes assigned to Hillary by Hillary precinct captains...
And then
Mass..Hell yes Bill violated election laws, blocked the voting entrance and even the vote count there..

So if we can keep Ms. Karl Rove Jr. from stealing this thing i think we have a chance
