A new poll shows that Bernie Sanders is quickly gaining ground against Hillary Clinton ahead of Tuesdays Democratic primary in Michigan.
According to the Michigan State University poll, Clinton is leading 51.9% to 46.9%, which is within the 6.1% margin of error. Previous polls have shown Clinton leading by double-digits.
The State of the State Survey also shows Donald Trump in a comfortable lead with 36.1% of the votes in Michigan. Ted Cruz was second with 19.5%, followed by Marco Rubio with 18.1%.
Michigan is critical to Sanders because more delegates are at stake than any of the previous primary states, except for Texas, where Clinton scored a big victory, 65.2% to 33.2%.
Its unclear what accounts for Sanders surge, but both candidates have been campaigning in the state.
The poll, released by the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research, shows Sanders is favored by 79% of voters between the ages 18 and 29. But Clinton is favored by about 78% of voters 65 years and older.

(1,192 posts)Uh...it's called campaigning? You know, that thing politicians do -going around the country, introducing their ideas and policies hoping that people will vote for them?
Maybe "what accounts for Sanders' surge" in Michigan are the things that had him surge for almost a year in many other states?

(31,935 posts)without Clintons billions and a media blackout can have any supporters at all. They thought that they had buried him. They don't understand the power of the right message, a good heart, and social media.

(17,656 posts)I don't know which one is more reliable, but the poll I read did not include students who use cell phones only.
So, Bernie could win by a few more points, maybe by as much as a 5 point spread over Hillary.

(14,570 posts)If his campaign has been as good at getting Bernie's message out and getting out the vote as they were in my state, then Bernie should win handily.

(142 posts)" The poll ... shows Sanders is favored by 79% of voters between the ages 18 and 29. But Clinton is favored by about 78% of voters 65 years and older. "
Just an idea but, make sure you've DVR'd the Downton Abbey finale and have it all set to go (on a continuous loop) for your elders today. All day. Provide crumpets, scones ... whatever it takes to make sure they're comfortable and warm. I've found that turning the thermostat up to a toasty warm degree makes things really nice. Sometimes it even makes me want a little nap.
Then grab all your friends (and their friends) and get down to those polling places and vote, vote, VOTE for BERNIE! After all, you are the ones who are going to have to inhabit this place long after our sorry old asses are gone (if anything is left, that is), so make sure it's going to be how you want it to be, and led by who you want it to be.
We're counting on you Michigan!

(24,010 posts)You might try this question to sort them out: Ask them if they want to watch that show, and if they say, "Downturn what...?", figure you may have a Bernie voter on your hands, do verify, and then get a wheelchair accessible car or whatever, to get them to the polling place!
