"Its not a threat, its not a threat. Its not a threat at all!" Trump declared when asked by Tapper about the tweeted message. "My people have said we ought to go to his rallies, when liberals and super-liberals, I dont even call em liberals... These people are bad people that are looking to do harm to our country. These people come into mine Theyre being arrested and all sorts of things are happening to them. Theres a horrible thing going on in the media. We are treated so unfairly, and Im treated so unfairly."

Else You Are Mad
(3,040 posts)Is that they have already shown they have a propensity towards violence & this 'call to action' from Herr Trump may be seen by these people as a call to violence against Sanders supporters. This is a very dangerous turn of events.
I never thought I would see a viable political candidate for president actually call for violence towards rivals in 2016.

(25,699 posts)But they roll up on a 10,000+ strong Sanders rally in the fives and tens, they're gonna shit their depends and turn their hoverrounds right the fuck around to the nearest chik-fil-a.
If they don't, maybe they'll learn something.
Else You Are Mad

(1,890 posts)I posted in another thread like this that I think when they do come, and they will, that Bernie should bring them up to the microphone and let them talk. He can then have a dialogue with them. Even if they are totally belligerent and won't have a dialogue it will clearly show how Bernie wants to unite people not divide them. He'll have an opportunity to show fanning the flames of bigotry and encouraging mob violence are not what true leaders do in America and that he is the alternative to the Trump hate that is consuming the Republican party. There will be plenty of anti-establishment Republicans who will be swayed by this because a lot of them aren't comfortable with Trump but they don't like the Republican establishment either.

(11,546 posts)" issuing orders so that his supporters would go and confront people at Sanders' rallies"
Sorry if that sounds hyperbolic but his bigotry, his taunts, willingness to kick people out of the country, his "orders" - he is a fascist and I think he and Hitler would have gotten along.

(3,017 posts)Pull up 3 or 4 chairs and ask them what they'd like to say. Let them pass a microphone around. Let the world see the Trump supporters in action. It would be all over the news.

(12,847 posts)My first thought was to quote GW Bush and say Bring it on!
That thought, an emotional response, was subdued by the rational side of my brain and the better angel of my nature (which I have made a conscious effort to cultivate).
Angry reactions to emotional stimuli are at the core of understanding how someone like Donald Trump has garnered support from so many people who would be hurt, along with the rest of us, by his presidency. Manipulating people by pushing the buttons of anger and fear are the stock in trade of the demagogue, the fascist, and the rightwing noise machine that has for decades gotten people to vote against their own interests. It has produced the monster that has now broken loose from the control of those who created it.
Besides attention and power, this monster wants to drag everyone else down to its level. It wants to point a finger at the villagers with torches & pitchforks and exclaim from the top of the tower that they (we) have become that which we have railed against.
We must not fall into that trap. We must not let ourselves be manipulated when our anger button is pushed. We must be smarter than that. We must always keep our minds and our hearts and our eyes on what we hope to accomplish for the long term good of our country including our neighbors, acquaintances, and family members who've succumbed to the manipulation.
Martin Luther King helped bend the long arc of the moral universe towards justice. He did it through dedication, persistence, and nonviolence. The man and the cause for which he ultimately gave his life are now widely revered. He knew better than to be dragged down to the level of those who are filled with hate and fear.
And so should we.
