I went to the Bernie rally tonite in Phoenix. And I have something to say to the media.

Last edited Sun Mar 20, 2016, 02:42 PM - Edit history (1)

There were as many, if not more older supporters of Bernie than there were young voters. Little old ladies pushing walkers to young parents with their babies inside of baby carriers.
I'd say the median age from my side of the room was late 30s.

But the one thing that was so beautiful to see was the melting pot of different types of people from all races and backgrounds.

I know we keep hearing that Bernie and his supporters are racist, that only white people vote for Bernie.
I know we keep hearing that Bernie's supporters are all millennials.

That couldn't be further from the truth told by the people that were there tonite at his rally.
And there we were, packed in like a can of sardines, literally smooshed together. Nobody cared about anyone's age.
Nobody cared about the color of anybody's skin.
We were one big happy family, all there with a common bond - to show Senator Bernie Sanders that we support him in his bid for the Presidency.

Except for the young girl that climbed on a guys shoulder and took of her shirt - lol. That was a whole other story. Bernie looked up, saw her, giggled, then went right back into his stump speech without missing a beat. I bet that was a first for him, being flashed at one of his rallies. (she was a trump protester).

Don't get fooled by the hype, or the hateful comments directed at us. People of all ages from all walks of life have come together to support this 74 year old man with a vision for our country.

This is who Bernie supporters are - don't listen to anyone that tells you something different.

https://

Edited to change Old Farts - which I am a proud member of that group - to older supporters. The LAST thing I wanted to do on a thread about people coming together for Bernie was to use a phrase that was offensive.

1. "I know we keep hearing that Bernie and his supporters are racist, that only white people

vote for Bernie.
I know we keep hearing that Bernie's supporters are all millennials."

That we keep hearing that is both nonsense and will continue to be stated, it is a tactic.

Neither proof nor truth matter, those posts have to do with the "BIG LIE" Strategy that Brock and the Clinton campaign are using as a large tool in their dirty tricks box.

His "internet specialists" (legal supposedly, but based on a very loose interpretation of a loop hole)
can be paid by a super-PAC to coordinate directly with her campaign if it is only involved via the internet,

Some of these employees are paid to post an all forms of social media, and often do, especially when it regards the Big Lie tactics when they are used, which rely on repetition of the lie in order to make people believe the lie even when faced with solid facts to the contrary.

Expect these lies to be continuously spread, along with other lies pushed as truth via the Big Lie tactic that they have been employing liberally. (perhaps the only true sentence involving the word liberally in connection with Clinton, a right wing candidate within the Democratic party.) You will hear the Big Lie in the media as well, precisely because Brock's superPAC that uses the internet and the campaign DO coordinate. Remember, Clinton has donors and friends at tht highest levels withinf much of the media as well, and are given the same script.

Joseph Goebbels: On the "Big Lie"

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

The only way to combat the Big Lie is with the much larger truth, that is why posts like your's and social media are so important, Goebbels' invention can be effective and must be countered.

21. We keep hearing that sh*t HERE.

Because they have an agenda.

Funny, how they love to use race as a brick to destroy our candidate because they cannot use their own candidate's positions on pretty much anything to counterbalance.

Like David Brock, Sid Blumenthal, and their like going back to Nixon and before.

Much like Bernie has raised awareness of SuperPACs.

6. I remember Bobby Kennedy's campaign

As brief as it was-- the first presidential campaign that I was aware of. Bernie's campaign reminds me a lot of that. They took Bobby away from us-- and it looks like they're trying to make sure we don't get Bernie, either.

Taking a week off to view the race from FL, I had conversations with some HRC supporters who couldn't quite grasp that memory like I could.

8. I agree.

I'm not in that category yet but I think it is insulting and ageist. We live in a youth culture in which old people are treated with disrespect and their knowledge and experience is disregarded to everyone's loss. In other cultures those qualities, and the wisdom that is only acquired with age, is valued.

Our cultural disrespect for old people is part and parcel of our historical amnesia. If we learned from our past mistakes we wouldn't be so likely to repeat them (e.g. foreign policy disasters). In one of the debates that I watched, Bernie brought up our past disastrous adventures in Iran and Latin America. One pundit I heard talking afterward pooh-poohed his comments, stating that those events occurred before he was born, as if the past has nothing to do with the present. This is dangerous, and feeds into the militarism of our foreign policy that has caused so much death and destruction for the benefit of the few. As Bush so memorably said, "Sometimes profits trump peace." I was appalled at the time that that statement wasn't met with outrage. The fact that it wasn't says a great deal about the corruption of our media by their corporate owners.

So please keep on objecting to the use of this term and the dismissive attitude it expresses.

But to support a poster who does object to the term, as I did, is not to be a "humorless one person PC patrol." My, how you jump to conclusions!

Surely there is some middle ground between being a Donald Trump and hypervigilance over every term or phrase. It is hard to convey intent in writing without using silly emoticons. Maybe we could give each other the benefit of the doubt, at least on this board.

of year. We've been hitting the 90s already - that's got to feel like hell to someone who lives in the upper northeast. It feels like hell to me - and been here all my life.
Plus he spoke at the border which is even hotter! wearing a black suit.

Bet he's happy to go cool off in the northwest for a few days.

7. You do a great job of describing Bernie, his supporters and

the revolution that is his platform.

The opposition has launched a bewildering barrage of extremely vicious propaganda aimed at casting
Bernie in a most unfavorable light. The media, the Clinton supporters and Trump himself go out of
their way to try to destroy Sanders' chances.

I'm an "old fart" also and I'm glad the audience in Phoenix included people of all ages. But, the key for
the Bernie movement still lies in the young vote.

Keep spreading the "good word". The DU seems to be falling apart right before our eyes.
I don't understand what is causing the collapse.

Trump has totally hijacked the Republican Party leaving the Party with NO control over their destiny.
The Democratic Party Establishment has made their decision. It seems to me that the Presidential election is lumbering along in a fog of partisan thug tactics in a very dangerous direction.

And how do I find out all of his appearances? My son has a week off for spring break, and I'd love nothing better than to get him to one of these events. We're on the west coast, northern California but would be willling to do a road trip if he is anywhere close.

Sorry to ask, but I googled his future appearances and found no obvious place where his future appearances are listed.

20. If you have made any online contributions to Bernie's campaign

The campaign will have your email and zip code and you should get an email inviting to you to any rallies he is going to have in your area. I live in western NC and received notifications of two. One (which I attended), was about 50 miles away in Greenville, SC before the South Carolina primary. The other was 200 miles away or so in Charlotte before Super Tuesday 3.

Both of the emails I got were less than 72 hours before the event. I don't think most of the schedule is solid more than a couple of days out, though I'm sure they have to have venues tentatively booked out further than that. They may be looking at polling data to make day to day decisions on where to go.

The large red dots appear to indicate events Bernie himself will be at. Boise tomorrow. Great, not sure if this will give us enough notice to get to an event, but that looks like the right resource to find him.

Now I only use my TV for Netflix. Do listen to local PBS station on car radio. Otherwise the internet. And since you do not know me! I will confess that I majored in journalism back in the late 50's. Nothing learned is being practiced today. No balance, no graciousness, no in-depth, not sources required.

36. Our Bernie group here in northeast Wisconsin breaks down something like this ...

24 regular, contributing members ....

Nine women over age 60
Six men over age 60
Four women between 21 and 60
Two men between 21 and 60
One woman under age 21
Two men under age 21

That's based on my eyeballs; I didn't ask anyone their actual age. I do know that the three younger members are all in high school, so I'm pretty sure about their ages.

All of us get a real laugh about the idea of "Bernie Bros."
