Party Loyalty?

Last edited Thu Mar 31, 2016, 12:36 PM - Edit history (1)

I have always been loyal to any democrat running, but something has changed. I feel like this primary cycle has opened my eyes to where the party is today. For years I have been in denial about my party becoming more aligned with the right and just assumed our party leaders were just too nice or soft.

When this guy from Vermont announced he was running, I was happy to learn about him. I educated myself on his career and beliefs. I was excited to find this person represented the Democratic Party to its core. I thought surely, the Democratic Party would rally around his message.

Instead, the party leadership has tried everything they could to stop this man. They have been attempting to squash his message. A message that stands for everything we thought represented democrats. My worst fears have been confirmed. My party is just a lobbying firm for corporations. Republicans have owned that badge for decades. My party has pretended to care about us, the people. My party leadership have been revealed to be nothing more than wolves in sheep clothing.

I have made up my mind. I will no longer reward candidates solely because they have a D by there name. No more. This has to stop. Now is the time for the country to wake up and take back our future. Stop voting for people that do not represent our best interest. Stop voting for candidates who owe their millions to large corporations. Vote for the only candidate that represents us. That's BERNIE SANDERS. I will never vote for scum DINOs again. Down with the establishment!

When the only thing your party leadership is willing to fight is you it's kind of silly to be loyal to them.

You can't properly educate yourself about Bernie and his issues to be an informed voter without seeing how corrupt the Clintons and the rest of the Democratic Party establishment are in comparison. Not in the age of the internet, despite the best efforts of the corporate media. It just can't be done.

Has sold us down the river to corporatists, neocons and third-wayers for a while now.
I agree with you. I cannot vote for someone simply because of party affiliation.
I am loyal to WE THE PEOPLE, not any party.

I know it may sound corny, but it really has been a journey. I have questioned everything I thought was right and have come away feeling angry and sad. For too long I have been a part of the problem in helping these people by voting for them and showing my support.

I am so happy I found this site a few years ago. You all are the absolute best.

Thank you

My s/o has always been indy and I thought it was mad. Thought I must've picked up a real liberal and laughed while I filled out my dem ballot. Well he's getting the last laugh. And the party may lose one true blue voter and one who registered as a dem as soon as they saw one worth their vote. But they've been very specific that we aren't wanted if we don't vote correctly. Disenfranchised indeed.

As said before, I didn't leave. I was left behind and forgotten. The values that were honored and supported by FDR, JFK, Carter and, yes, at his best, Johnson have been left behind and forgotten. Loyalty and respect have to be mutual.

I think this primary serves as a history lesson for people to understand what the party use to stand for.

They continually tell us that Sanders is "not actually a Dem", but want all of his supporters to vote for Hillary in November, just because she is a D. The argument breaks down.

In which case, I raise a finger, dust my lapels, pop my collar and proceed to vote for what-- and who-- I can believe in for once.

My brother used to roll my eyes at my pragmatism. He saw where this country, where this party was heading years ago.

I finally understand why he was offended by my pragmatism, it is just another label for apathy. I am no longer pragmatic. Pragmatism's time has come and gone. We really have to do something bold and course altering now.

Voting for DINOs ensures that we will continue to have two right wing parties.
