According to data from the office of Secretary of State Alex Padilla, hundreds of thousands of registrations occurred between mid-March and mid-May.
They show an increase of more than 220,000 Democrats, or a nearly 3-percentage-point boost in their numbers, which hit 7.7 million. Republican numbers rose by nearly 70,000, for a 1.45-percentage-point increase and a total of 4.8 million. And the ranks of non-partisan voters — which have been the fastest-growing in California for years now — actually fell by 20,000 to total 4.1 million, a drop of half a percentage point. None of that appears hugely significant.

By his count, more than 2 million fresh voters will be included by the time the tallies from Monday’s deadline are completed. According to counts made by his firm, Political Data Inc., there already has been a boost of 218% in Democratic registration, of 78% in Republican registration, and 74% in nonpartisan registrations.
Registrations among Latinos are up 123%, he said. Sign-ups among those 24 and younger are up 87% and those 25 to 30 are up 188%. The latter two categories would suggest a boost for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Let me explain how nonsensical these Sragow statements are. The Republican Primary is CLOSED. Democrats and No Party Preference (NPP) voters can't vote in it. But the biggest surge of voter registrations is Democratic, a 218% increase, mostly young voters. So, according to Sragow, young people are signing up in droves as Democrats to vote against Trump?!

I suppose it could be true, in a way. Young people these days are smart, well-informed voters because of the internet and social media, so they probably know that Sanders demolishes Trump in all polls, and has been doing so since January, and Clinton has been slumping in polls against Trump and is now LOSING to Trump! So they're not signing up as Democrats to vote against Trump--they can't--but to vote against Clinton, who can't beat Trump in the GE, and for Sanders, who can!

Here was the situation as of March 31: 850,000 new voter registrations in California, mostly young, mostly Democratic. I predicted at the time that it would get to one million by the voter reg deadline of May 23. But the numbers in this article (which are about the only thing you can trust in the article because they come from the Sec of State's web site) say that the April-May voter registrations boosted that guestimate to TWO MILLION!
TWO MILLION new voter registrations in California! Overwhelmingly young, overwhelmingly Democratic. Another thing that makes no sense at all: They all signed up to vote for Hillary Clinton.
The Slimes don't go that far, because nobody would believe it--it's laughable--and they have to retain some kind of slimy credibility, to be able to con people with crap like this, when necessary, i.e., when a political movement threatens their investments and their bankster pals.
But anything else--anything at all--to shove Bernie Sanders and his amazing campaign out of the picture, and make it seem oh, just so confusing and complicated that TWO MILLION NEW VOTERS have swamped the Secretary of State's office, they'll call up Sragow, yeah and get a quote from him that will help do that.

It looks to me as if people have shied away from NPP registration because it requires several more steps, beyond registration, to vote for Bernie Sanders. The Democrats permit NPP voters to vote in our Primary. The Republicans do not. If it's a mail-in NPP vote, the voter has to send a postcard from the reg package back in, to REQUEST a Democratic ballot. There is little time left to do that--I think that deadline was May 31, today. OR you can go to your polling place on voting day, Tues., June 7, and REQUEST a Democratic ballot there and vote. Some poll workers have been disinformed about this and may try to fob off a "provisional" ballot on you. DO NOT ACCEPT THIS. Insist on the Democratic ballot, and if they won't give it to you, call the cops, because they are breaking the law.)
