Obama Wanted to Cut Social Security. Then Bernie Sanders Happened.

Source: The Intercept [June 2, 2016]

President Barack Obama endorsed an expansion of Social Security for the first time on Wednesday.

“We can’t afford to weaken Social Security,” he said during a speech on economic policy in Elkhart, Indiana. “We should be strengthening Social Security. And not only do we need to strengthen its long-term health, it’s time we finally made Social Security more generous, and increased its benefits so that today’s retirees and future generations get the dignified retirement that they’ve earned.”

The increased benefits, he said, could be paid for “by asking the wealthiest Americans to contribute a little bit more. They can afford it. I can afford it.”

This was a far cry from Obama’s position on the program in late 2012, when his administration argued for reducing Social Security benefits by recalculating the way cost of living adjustments are made.

..too bad it's on his way out the door and with little chance of it actually happening.

Low stakes risk: It's the Democratic Party way!

Would like to hear SOS Clinton's take on this.

She will ask herself "which of the large investment banks that paid me should I give the government contract to to handle the trust fund when I sign the bill to privatize Social Security"

to privatize it sooo badly) but the naughty Republicons will force her to accept their cuts.

They will trick her like Bush did re. the Iraq War.

with how things have been with our Democratic moderates/centrists. Their positions have been more republican than democrat. I am very grateful for Bernie and his hard work which is moving the Democratic Party closer to being, the Democratic Party. The party for the people.

I was told he's a single-issue candidate, and it's only for something impossible to achieve.

So what's the deal? This seems quite reasonable and quite achievable. So he must not really be for it.
