Do We Really Have To Hold Our Nose To Vote In November? Or...

is it possible to mount a national 'write-in' campaign if Bernie doesn't win the nomination? Enough American's on both sides of the aisle can't imagine voting for either Trump or Hillary. Many on both sides of the aisle are saying they'll sit this election out or just vote for down ballot candidates and not register a vote for President. Couldn't a national write-in campaign for Bernie be their solution to their problem?

Such a campaign would really send the message of a 'Political Revolution' to the establishment. Wouldn't a national write-in campaign for Bernie be our way out of the control that the establishment holds over us?

IMHO I think this can be pulled off. What say you?

1. I don't believe you can write in in CA...but maybe that's just the primary.

I don't want to do anything that would invalidate my ballot, at any time.

3. Thanks, Peggy. I believe you are correct that write ins are a problem in California.

California really has a lot of gotchas about both primary and general voting. If I lived in California, I might be thinking about trying to simply the laws.

2. FYI. The people who started the Bernie or Bust campaign are apologizing now

because they did not do their homework before starting the write in campaign. Turns out laws about write ins vary from state to state. In some states, you can invalidate your entire ballot by writing in.

I called my Board of Elections to verify.

A total of 7 states do not permit write ins.

It sucks.

that you have to vote for the establishment candidates - even if you have to hold your nose.

I didn't know that write-ins have to file in most states and are not allowed in others.

I still think if a write-in was allowed in all states - that we can get Bernie elected.

All the way around the deck was stacked against him though.

7. A write-in is really the definition of a wasted vote

Most aren't counted. Period. Sometimes they even invalidate an entire ballot. You're better off not voting because at least then you're sparing whatever energy it takes to make the useless vote.

There are more useful methods for making your dissatisfaction with hte two major party candidates, than writing-in. of course such methods cannot be advocated on DU.
