And let's face it, many of the loudest posters here approach politics like obnoxious sports fans, the kind who can't walk to the mailbox without chest pains but who love to go on about how "we" beat so and so.

You're not talking about a very principled or even intelligent group, so the thought that someone could be motivated by actual concern with making the world better isn't even in their mental universe. It just doesn't compute.
