Dear Media: Stop Your Petty Trolling About Bernie Sanders’ Secret Service Protection

The latest establishment media attack on Bernie Sanders is even lazier and more pathetic than you’d expect.

Sanders still receives protection from a Secret Service detail, which he’s had since February after splitting delegates with Hillary Clinton in the Iowa caucus. Now that the primaries and caucuses are over, the media has attempted to paint the senator and presidential candidate as selfish for continuing to receive Secret Service protection at the cost of $38,000 a day.

This attack began with the Washington Post and was repeated ad nauseum by TIME, CBS, The Hill, Slate, feminist blog Jezebel, and Huffington Post parent company AOL. Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel, whose Twitter timeline is filled with smug tweets mocking Sanders’ supporters, repeated the attack to his 204,000 followers. Each article suggests that if Sanders were to suspend his campaign, he would be doing a service to taxpayers. The only problem is that this line of attack is based on a complete lie.

This year’s $1.93 billion Secret Service budget was signed in 2015, months before Sanders received his Secret Service detail. According to Roll Call, $204 million was appropriated for presidential candidate protection, which was the exact amount President Obama requested.

Any candidate in the public eye -- be it Democrat or Republican. He is NOT using the Secret Service to go fetch him mcdonalds , they are out there to protect him. And, with the very real threats that the far right gun nuts have been spewing towards the liberal left, I don't blame him.

This is not a logical attack, they are there to protect him and his campaign workers, not to just waste money.

Would these complainers rather see him assassinated?

On twitter there is a post with a lot of likes and retweets that the only way to get Bernie to drop out is at his funeral.

Then I hear the media say this.

What else am I supposed to think?

So VERY much.

It's dangerous to suggest removal of SS of Bernie Sanders. We are not at the Democratic Convention. Why is that so hard for them to understand? Does their job depend on not understanding?

We still protect former presidents and spend our time protecting losing candidates like Trump.

But because it's Bernie we are suppose to let every crackpot and hater take a shot at him? What a sad meme that one is.
