Syracuse professor Eric Kingson will help write Democratic national platform
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Eric Kingson, a candidate in the Syracuse area's Democratic primary for Congress, has been appointed to the platform committee for the Democratic National Convention.
Kingson, 70, of Manlius, said Friday he will serve as one of five New York representatives on the national committee.
The Syracuse University professor said he was appointed by Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
Sanders endorsed Kingson last week, leading to a flood of campaign donations to Kingson's campaign for the 24th Congressional District seat.
Kingson is opposed in the Democratic primary by Colleen Deacon, 39, of Syracuse, a former aide to U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and Syracuse lawyer Steve Williams, 53, of Baldwinsville.
Kingson, a nationally recognized expert on Social Security, said he will travel to Orlando in early July to serve on the committee. The panel's recommendations will be voted on at the Democratic National Convention July 25-July 28 in Philadelphia.
