Bernie Sanders

if Trump wins the Repiglican nomination? I have spent most of the past hour listening to his speech. This is getting uncomfortably not funny. He has his scapegoats lined up, his bullshit keeps converting low intelligence people, and I can see him going up against Bernie. Can you imagine the stakes of that contest?

I don't know what can be done if the R party does not do the unthinkable (except in this circumstance maybe) and remove him somehow.

(3,160 posts)by speaking about how he was going to restore the country to its former glory I could only see a vision of the worst possible scenario.

(10,345 posts)We highly doubt he'll win. But of course, hate and fear are powerful motivators. I can imagine a ton of white supremacists thinking "We finally have a voice in the White House!" and going to the polls.
But then again, Bernie's movement is FACTUALLY larger, so there is hope there. It's just the media is much more enamored with Trump's following because let's face it, it is shocking to watch.
But find comfort in knowing the truth, Bernie's following is greater. Racism in itself isn't as widespread as it was decades ago. Yes, it's still strong. But the U.S. as a whole is much more integrated and enlightened.
Trumps supporters are merely a vocal minority thats getting all the attention, while Bernie's is a vocal majority that's being somewhat ignored (that is changing!)
So anyways, if Trump wins, we've got 2 choices planned.
1. March on Washington with an extremely pissed off TRUE majority of Americans that will not stand to have such an obvious representative of the 1% take the White House.
2. Move to Ireland.

(10,345 posts)and it's telling of how far we have to go to really alleviate this mass xenophobia in people.
That won't go away until the media's control of the masses that obey the TV is reduced and/or obliterated.
People need to stop believing everything the TV says and start learning and thinking for themselves.
I've always thought badly of the millenial generation, but it's times like this where I look at their propensity for using social media and integrating themselves with a hive mind as a benefit. They, along with Generation X are a generation of skeptics and fact checkers.
Gen X and the one before it were lied to by our government and learned firsthand to be skeptical of the hand that feeds you. The millenial generation is seeing that as well, as they're also raised by their parents from those former generations.
I think we're getting smarter. I'm optimistic.

(10,345 posts)but still, while he has thousands every so often, Bernie has surpassed that already.
And then there's the other factors....
1. Some people literally turn out to his rallies to see a celebrity.
2. Some people go because of the sheer spectacle.
3. Some people go because they truly believe in his message. (shivers)
4. and some people go because "I like him because at least he's honest" and they've yet to even hear about Bernie because they only watch TV and don't use the internet.

(3,160 posts)The way I see it, for the next year it will be the Trump Reality Show on every cable news channel. At election time he asks America if they want the show to continue (elect me), or if you want the show cancelled (elect Bernie). As America is now officially an idiocracy I can see what choice they would make. Might as well start drinking Brawndo.

(5 posts)I had a conversation with my dad about this, and my conclusion was that the second Best thing that could come of it would be the out and outing of a neoliberal post democracy.
Its pretty apparent that the countrys interest in participating in politics has waned, with the rise of the hypernsocialite mentality, and the wax of any productive way of contributing to a society that is more and more reliant on places we cant pronounce- it seems almost inevitable.
If we cant imagine a renaissance, they will make one up. Trumps idea of making this nation great again means subjecting our cities and industry to an unseen reign of austerity, indifference, and deference to the great weights of this global village. He has been on the tip of financeers dicks since he was born, why wouldn't we want the same!?
i think the best thing that could happen is that neither trump or sanders win popular party support and run as independents, thus making a mighty step towards a political conversation that is more representative of the current electorate.
But i dont think i can handle another bushVcliton.
Im still in the no confidence camp...

(45,251 posts)Both are tapping into deep dissatisfaction with the status quo. A status quo candidate is going to have trouble defeating either one of them. However, one of them is sane, altruistic and refuses to go negative and the other is a nasty, evil, megalomaniacal sociopathic attack machine.
