Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumBernie deserves credit for taking a day out of campaigning to pay respect.
I think he will, at a proper time and in a proper place, respond to the senseless gun violence that occurred today with specific policy suggestions.
But right now, I think it's appropriate to put his campaign aside and thoughtfully respond as he did:
"Jane and I have their families and friends in our thoughts.
I expect that he will reiterate his former support for universal background checks and closing gun show loopholes.
But not now, not within hours of the tragedy.
Sad sad thing. Thank you, Senator Sanders, for not making political hay of this event.

(2,212 posts)I'm a Bernie supporter and I think I understand the gist of your post.
But the 2nd Amendment crowd has repeatedly shut down discussions of gun control with the refrain, "How DARE you mention gun control at a time like this? You're trying to politicize a tragedy. No one should mention anything about the politics of gun control within 30 days of a tragedy out of respect for the dead."
Of course, with a mass shooting occurring at least once a week, that would mean the topic should never be broached. It's absurd.
Or to put this another way: If a carload of teenagers flies off a road and crashes into a ravine, I see nothing wrong with urging the local politicians to have a guardrail installed at the very next town meeting.
