Back from the the Vegas debate trenches:

My experiences (in the order they occurred):

I flew and met up with friends that traveled in the caravan from CA at our hotel the night before. They arrived in an SUV covered head to foot (or tailpipe to headlight) with colorful Bernie slogans on it.

?2

Went to 711 first in the am to get some coffee and a guy in line asked where we got the Bernie shirts from and told us Bernie was stopping by their union hall for a half hour before the debate. (Where does he get the energy.)

Drove by the Wynn at 7 am and Hillary supporters were already organized and walking the walkway (between hotels and over traffic) with their signs. We were stopped in traffic under the walkway so we got to honk and yell "Bernie" from our Bernmobile. They laughed and had a good time trying to outshout us.

Back to the hotel for breakfast where some Danish people that were their for a convention stopped us and hugged us. They love Bernie over there and everybody there knows him they said.

Met up with other Bernie volunteers about 9:30 at Treasure Island. Sang Bernie songs and decorated more cars. One of the volunteer organizers brought (must of been 50 or more) Costco pizzas and other goodies for us for lunch. Gave us training on how to spot trouble and who to call. I could never figure out who was supposed to start the trouble and of course there never was any.

We marched in several smaller groups through the hotel and out to the walkway singing Bernie songs and chanting Bernie slogans ("Feel the Bern", always got smiles) and offering people Bernie flyers and fans I had made up. People were really supportive and interested. We met up with the Hillary supporters and had a Hillary Bernie chant stand off while walking over the bridge. There was no animosity and we had them genuinely laughing. I offered the Hillary supporters my Bernie fans to cool them down. The press was there (AP and some Japanese channel) and loved the interplay. Several of our group agreed to be interviewed and were.

There were a few homeless people set up on the bridge and one of them asked us who Bernie was. We handed him some information and when he learned Bernie was running for President he stunned us all by saying "I'm for Trump." We later brought some of the Pizza up for them and gave them a donation.

The nurses were wonderful. Very organized and loud. My guess is a couple of hundred of them from around the country. The marched and chanted through Treasure Island and over to the Wynn. We joined them for a bit in Treasure Island and they got a kick out of seeing us there. They invited us to a very good dinner put on by their union after the debate.

We drove over to the Wynn in the Bernmobile and handed it over to the valet after removing the very nice Bernie campaign banners that we salvaged after a campaign organizer had accidentally left at Treasure Island. Security stopped us and said we couldn't bring them in but we explained we were going to the Bernie debate watch room and they said we could bring them in as long as we didn't unravel them until we got to the room.

We made it to the debate watch room but they said they were only allowing the nurses in. We then found out that some others had gotten tickets for the room and were supposed to be allowed in later. We met Ed Schultz in the hallway and some of the group took a picture with him.

Our organizer in an attempt to find out where our tickets were (after all, we had been invited by the campaign to attend) decided to walk back through the hotel to find someone. I walked with her and ended up holding the big banner for her while she met up with someone to get us tickets.

I managed to get escorted from not only the Wynn but the entire Wynn property by a security officer with a grudge for holding the rolled up Bernie banner sign that didn't belong to me while she was gone. Had to wait on the street corner for about 30 minutes before being rescued by the organizer that brought some security management people with her. On the way back in we met other Bernie supporters that hadn't been allowed in to the Wynn.

We made our way back to the room with tickets just to find out tickets were no longer needed. The room was only half full due to so many giving up completely. Our crowd loved what Bernie said and applauded wildly for him.

Bernie (and Jane) came in to day a few words afterwards.

One of our members was accosted by a security guard on the way out and accused of holding the banner like a weapon.

We escaped the dreadful Wynn, made our way back to Treasure island and enjoyed the wonderful dinner with the nurses before going back to our hotel exhausted.

Sorry I didn't get more pictures. Others did and I know they are out on social media but i was just living in the moment.

ETA: Forgot to mention that I got molested by the TSA agent in Vegas on the way back. I guess security and I just don't get along. What is the use of those damn radiation machines if they always show spots all over me even though I am only wearing a t-shirt and jeans and undies? And it was a serious rough massaging I got. Jheez!

Check out picture 16 to see how much room there was in the Bernie debate watching room after people were turned away. That is only hale of the room shown in the pic but you can see there was plenty of extra room. I wonder what the Hillary room looked like.

They had a ton of security and officers in the hotel. I have no idea why they thought dems for any of the candidates would need so much security. We aren't really a violent bunch despite our rhetoric on DU sometimes.

3:50 p.m.

Supporters of rivals Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders clashed in a friendly faceoff on a crowded pedestrian bridge in Las Vegas ahead of Tuesday's debate.

Wearing blue shirts, Clinton supporters are chanting "Madam President." Opposing them: red-shirt-wearing registered nurses yelling, "Equal rights, jobs that pay, Bernie's best for the USA."

In the middle were several trapped Las Vegas tourists.

Jim Shilling, a 74-year-old tourist from La Crosse, Wisconsin, certainly didn't mind.

"I love it. There's enthusiasm. Democrats need enthusiasm," he said. "I'm with 'em both."

I did a lot of volunteering with the Dean campaign and it was okay but a lot of old fashioned telephoning and door to door work. Social media and the people of all ages involved in this campaign has made volunteering actually fun. You can choose the events and bring whatever you want to them. Or set up any event you can think of and add it to the event page and have people sign up. The people are absolutely wonderful.

Groups out here have done everything from Bowling for Bernie to Freeway brigades to tabling and passing out flyers at fairs. Something for everyone. And you can just sign up for the events you want.

My next one is an ice cream social at the colleges. I am sure it will be fun.

ETA: Young people are also signing up in droves which adds to the enthusiasm. It is really wonderful to see them out there and they are very well informed.
