bigger haircut than they would have had they just evened things out a little.

It's no different than the ruling class taxing the peasants in the middle ages now. The real crime is how many of our tax dollars go right into the pockets of the 1%. They claim to be taxed to heavily already but many are way in the black as far as our tax dollars go. They take in more than they pay out.

Some corporate officer from a defense contractor is an easy one, but you can say the same about the big bosses at oil companies and any outfit that does a lot of business with the federal and state governments. Anyone heavily invested in the right corporations might take in enough tax dollars to top what they pay in federal taxes as well.

What goes right to the top makes "welfare" and everything else they harp about a joke!

Perhaps she could start by handing out $1000 to 100 poor families in her town. In addition to demonstrating, that is.

than we had 8 years ago.

Maybe, instead of playing plantation master, she finds 10 families and pays them a decent wage to work for a year, while they take classes and learn how to make something. Say bread.

Then she funds a cooperative bakery, and they buy it from her.

Or we could keep doing what doesn't work.

We are being held hostage in an economic system that is controlled by maladjusted people.

These people rose to the top because the economic system rewards ruthless competitiveness.

There is little or no reward for people who want to live a meaningful life and do some middle-income type of thing for a job (take teachers as an example), and worse yet, even less for those who are altruistic and who would like to even the playing field.

Once in a great while you get a person like the young woman in the picture. Or a Ben and Jerry type of situation. Or the clothing textile guy who turned the company over to his employees as a cooperative, even while he was still interested in running it. These people are aberrations, because the system we have in place is made to appeal to the usual sociopath who rises to the top because of a single-minded obsession with money.

It's a very sad situation, and I'm sorry to say that I don't see it ever changing. Bernie's got the right idea, and if he were elected, change might be possible. Other than that, I don't see any change coming, and I also see us going down as a species because of this defective model of economic operation.

The only people truly standing against the 99% are shareholders. A hard right republican Trump lover without Wall St ties does less to harm the nation and the world at large than a "liberal" with them.
