The “New Democrats” Confront a New Reality

-snip-
Several recent news articles have suggested that, in the words of a Washington Post headline, “there’s … a big economic fight happening in the Democratic Party.”

It’s true. The corporate-friendly policies of the party’s more conservative wing have fared poorly, both as policy and as politics, and as a result the party has moved to the left. The insurgent candidacy of Bernie Sanders is the most conspicuous sign of this shift. It’s a major setback for the so-called “New Democrats” who have dominated the party since the election of Bill Clinton in 1992.

Nearly twenty-five years after they rose to power, the ideas of the “New Democrats” don’t seem so new. Hence, the phenomenon that the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein describes as “the panic of Democratic centrists.”

Now they’re fighting back. A Wall Street-funded Democratic think tank called Third Way has released a lengthy report which argues that an inequality-based, populist theme will doom Democrats. Its board member, former White House Chief of Staff (and JPMorgan Chase executive) Bill Daley, even insisted to HuffPo’s Stein that Sanders’ political positions are “a recipe for disaster.”

and if they continue the takeover of the Democratic Party, I will have to leave it.

They only care about right-wing conservative economics, and use social issues to triangulate, divide, and conquer.

No vote from me for any of them. In Florida, that would be Bill Nelson and Patrick Murphy. And no votes from me for ANY politician that I consider to be Third Way. Come what may.

I am SO glad this is getting play.

The 'New Democrats" are just the Old Republicans -- more moderate, but that's a low bar when you

consider the near fascism and sheer lunacy of today's Republican party.

among Progressives. Whereas Obama was backed by everyone for years (because of the Bush disaster) Hillary will not be getting the same support. She's going to have some rough sledding pushing her corporate agenda.

The New Dem Coalition (as is Debbie Wasserman-Schultz) And a member of the shrinking Blue Dogs.
He fully epitomizes who the Republican Wing of the Dem Party is, who they work For and What they stand for.

There are plenty more "dems" who don't declare in writing/formal membership who Vote with them. Connect their friends and then the dots.

New Dem Coalition Members - includes one of the Castro Brothers.

like the Koch's "Americans for Prosperity" that it made me laugh. In a horrified way.

Bill Nelson used to be on that membership list, at the beginning of this year; he is off the list, but still votes as a DINO.

Of course, they want the TPP - even have it as their home page illustration -

and nothing on this page will happen, if the TPP is passed -

when the party gets trounced in national elections. People who want austerity and TPP and SS cuts and for-profit healthcare already have someone on the ballot - usually a republican.

15. What Has Shocked Me So Far Are The Members Of Congress
Wed Nov 11, 2015, 03:52 PM

who have come out in support of Hillary. I can't say I don't know the reason because there IS a reason, but many member of Congress who I always felt who stood tall for "we the people" are stating their support for her. John Lewis's support was a HUGE shock to me, Barnie Frank, Howard Dean and down the line. These members who I always felt weren't DLC Democrats have really disappointed me. I've been doing research about the Unions who "say" they support Hillary, but it seems when you pull back the curtain, so many members don't agree with their leaders. I could list many I've looked at, but it's easy for anyone here to do themselves.

I just entered Hillary Clinton and Unions. From what I see posted here you would think Unions have given her their support, but it seems that perhaps the heads of Unions state their support, but a closer look will show you that members don't.

What prompted me to do this is because I'm watching Thom Hartmann right now who is meeting in Chicago with Union leaders and it seems many Unions are VERY upset with this situation. There are some who've asked how they can fight back against the Bernie Sanders, SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST illusion because they know he's always supported them.

What really seems to be going on is the BIG WHIGS and the KNOWN names are out with their support for her, but behind the curtain there's ANOTHER story. And I as a Bernie supporter am now extremely upset by so many in Congress who seem to be kneeling down and rolling over simply to support her. It's made me RE-THINK my opinion of so many who I felt were on our side.

Guess in the end, THEY really aren't with us... It's hurtful and a real shame as I see s many I held in high regard who seem to be looking the other way. How else can I explain it??

calling in favors owed or promising favors for an endorsement. They didn't endorse her because she's the best candidate.

And Union bosses who endorsed her when their members support Bernie, are just bought and paid for. Members can and WILL vote for whomever they choose and that's BERNIE. That's what matters too! ONE UNION BOSS vote for Hillary and MILLIONS OF UNION MEMBER VOTES FOR BERNIE.
