See original thread in GD where haha, I got a post in my own thread hidden for calling out the one of the most disturbed and mendacious posters on DU.
The thing is, I don't care anymore.
I mean it. Goodbye my friends.
The thing is that in 2015, there are more effective places for the Left to do its work.
Most of y'all can figure out where to find me or who to ask to do so.

(7,499 posts)but I understand completely. DU has become an HRC echo chamber, even though the majority here are Bernie supporters. I said I was leaving a couple of weeks ago, but didn't go. I think I'm there now. The DU hierarchy has made it clear they are all in for Hillary, and I cannot get behind a Wall Street loving war hawk who is plagued with scandals of her own making, so I'm going to follow you out the door and look for a site that loves Democratic values and has no tolerance for DINOs and corporate hacks.
Best to you, Catherina, and I hope to see you on the other side.

It's not that hard to ask why someone gets to the point of leaving a place they have spent so many years contributing to, making friends, doing what they can to try to make this a better country together with those friends. Did it occur to you at all that sometimes there are personal reasons why people finally say goodbye?
To be kind shouldn't be that hard ... I hope you have a nice evening. Maybe there is something going on your life that causes you to mock people who clearly are in distress, I hope not, I hope your life is as happy as possible.

(20,582 posts)I know that Catherina is involved in things that have truly helped many people and that she cannot stand to see what wars and neo-liberal policies do to those who are the most vulnerable - to see her trashed here at all for that has been pretty disgusting, and to see people joke about losing such a strong voice just says everything about them.
I know that I always wonder how someone is doing when I don't see them here for awhile and am glad to know they're alright .... even if they are saying goodbye.

They should, because we are, because people have just about enough of neoliberal policies that have destroyed so many, many lives and they are flocking to Bernie because they finally hear someone speaking for them.
We should just leave that small, disgruntled group to their unhappiness and let them lash out all they want, their opinions mean less than zero to me.

(62,325 posts)that this site has become. It's a minority yes, but we have important work to do and DU is no longer a place where Democratic values are supported. By a majority of members, yes, but that majority isn't welcome here anymore.
And I want to spend valuable time getting my candidate elected, not wading through bs that has zero to do with this country's future.
I and many others have definitely considered spending far less time here and spending that time signing up people for Bernie.
Leave it to those who spend their time hating and attacking other DUers. Imagine if that's all that was here? The site would die without people like Catherina, you and so many others. And I think it won't be too long before that happens.
So many other places to go where people are not so filled with hatred.

(154,021 posts)don't hide them, don't ignore them... that way they can do their work in the dark. I speak from experience, if you ignore them they get far worst. Just don't engage them. I will make a point NOT TO ENGAGE those people, but they will never, ever, like never again go on ignore. Like EVER. And if they come visit to my site. where I have the ability, they will (in some cases again) be IP banned and their poison will never see publication there. As in never, they attack me or my readers, there is zero tolerance for that shit. I made a promise the site would be safe from bullies and it takes work, but it is.
That pisses them to no end I know, but quite frankly, bully behavior can and should be treated in only one way.zero tolerance. If not, it festers, as it has here...
Take my word though... this is by design. The bullies have a function and that is to drive those they do not like at DU away, and that is to avoid the "drama" of a permanent ban. I will keep coming back, even though I will be stalked and alerted until I get another vacation, by that band of approved bullies. And that will be until I am actually given a more permanent remedy.
The best to do with these people is that if they say hello, just walk by and pretend they do not exist. They do, but I am not going to validate their existence.

(15,435 posts)difficult coming here these days. I've left many times before myself, but what I'm seeing her at DU now is extremely toxic. So many times I've begun to feel like I'm blogging at a Repub blog. Not sure it should be called DEMOCRATIC Underground anymore, it's begun to lean so far to the right. I've been a Democrat all my life and that's many, many years... I don't recognize these new type of Democrats.
I'll be posting less and less myself. I don't think I recognize this country anymore, and I am VERY AFRAID where we're headed.
WAR, WAR, AND MORE WAR! Neoliberal, Third Way & DLC. Not the Democratic Party I know anymore.
Hope you find some peace, but it seems hard to escape any of what going on because our own Democratic Party has made the decision that we should have only ONE candidate and the other two can go pound salt. THIS isn't DEMOCRATIC!

(62,325 posts)the great people who BUILT this site, without whom no one would bother to come here. Catherina is one of those people.
But when a site loses its ability to make a difference, then it may be time to leave it behind, and spend that valuable time getting things done. That's all I see people here saying. No one needs to waste time wading through hateful personal attacks on Democrats. If I want to do that, I know where to go, and sometimes I do just for the hell of it. I like a good fight with Right Wingers, they are so easy. But THIS is supposed to be a place for Democrats.
I just wish the owners would make a statement saying that Bernie supporters are not welcome here. That is a majority of DUers right now, but it would be fair to tell people directly, rather than allow some of the trolling that goes on.
Maybe it's time to ask them so we all know where we stand. I am here mainly because of all the good people who are still here. But as more and more leave, the incentive to waste any more time, isn't as strong.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Insinuating in the Sanders group that Sanders is not a democrat . He is running on the D ticket . This is complete flame bait . Please review .
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat Nov 21, 2015, 08:15 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Though it is a very stupid, immature and completely fictitious opinion, the DUer has the right to say it.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The poster does NOT insinuate that sanders is not a democrat; the poster is simply asserting that Clinton holds a sizable lead with Democratic voters and that DU is not reflective of democratic party at large. Love t or hate it, at this moment in time all of the reputable polling shows this
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Ummm.......saying this stupid stuff especially in a protected group = non-respectful.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Perhaps you might think about how many Democrats are supporting Senator Sanders, as well as the fact that he is running on the Democratic Party's ticket.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The statement is about the current atmosphere of DU, not Senator Sanders. The past few days there has been multiple posts outright stating that Hillary Clinton is no longer a Democrat. I recommend engaging and discussing with the poster rather than alerting because you disagree.
I happened to not see this was in the Sanders Group and would have voted to hide had I noticed that. I hope the group host will just block the person.

I disagree with what Catherina tweeted but I don't lecture black folks on what language they can and cannot use.
And it's certainly not your place or mine to accuse them of not being black or black enough.
Your exploitation of her race in this context is disturbing and illiberal.

(8,812 posts)I always enjoyed your informative, principled posts.
Although I haven't officially left yet, I've essentially eliminated DU from my daily routine.
Life is too short to try to keep countering smug neo-cons masquerading as Democrats.
I'm reminded of an episode from the old Mary Tyler Moore show, where Rhoda takes her first sick day in nine years. The previous time, she explains, she watched a soap opera, where a woman was having a baby. "I watched today," she tells Mary, "and that woman is still having the same baby!"
That was essentially my reaction upon returning to DU after an extended absence. Nothing had really changed. No real progress had been made. It was still the same petty, depressing, corrosive environment I left.
There are still many here who are valiantly fighting the good fight, but they are undermined left and right by the messengers of the rich, privileged, and powerful.
