Attention New Yorkers! Petitioning to get Bernie on the ballot in NY starts today!
-snip-
Petitioning to get Bernie on the ballot in NY starts today. It is very important that you sign the petitions, because we only have 5 weeks until the petitions are due on February 4. To get petitions, contact your CD (congressional district) coordinator - they will have petitions. You can find them here. If you do not know what congressional district you are in, you can look it up here. DO NOT turn your petitions into the Board of Elections - give them to your CD coordinator as soon as they are completed so that the campaign can review them. For more information on collecting signatures in NY to get Bernie on the ballot, see this document. Only registered Democrats can sign. (You can not sign your own petition, because you can not witness your own signature.) The easiest way to sign a petition is to go to a petitioning event listed on the website. There are events in most parts of NY - you can find them by going to /u/rcas's amazing map here. We need 500 signatures from each congressional district to get the full slate of Bernie delegates on the ballot, and we only have 5 weeks to do so. Please sign your district's petition so that we can get Bernie's delegates on the ballot in NY. https://www.reddit.com/r/SandersForPresident/comments/3yni83/attention_new_yorkers_petitioning_to_get_bernie/

2. And make absolutely certain you sign the way you signed on the voter registration form.
If you are listed as Sharon M. Mikulsky, that is how you have to sign the petition. I worked on a low level insurgent campaign in Brooklyn a few years back and spent hours going over the lists to ensure our signatures matched up with those on file with the Board of Elections.
Do not think for ONE SECOND that your signature will not be challenged if it varies in any way. The GOPukes and the Dems both will challenge anything they can to get the petition disallowed. If the petition has multiple signatures even ONE bad signature will invalidate the entire document. When Perot ran, only one person was allowed to sign a petition. THe piles and piles and piles of paper that resulted got him on the ballot in New York because the cost of challenging all of them was more than the Bush or CLinton campaigns could afford. (I just realised how odd that sounded. Bush and Clinton. Hmmmm... deja vu all over again.) |

3. Actually, the law is quite a bit more liberal...
...shortened versions of names (e.g., "Jim" for "James"
![]() 2015's election law can be found here (Section 6 deals with the petition process): http://www.elections.ny.gov/ElectionLaw.html My SO and I are old-time committee people, and we're used to the process. So of course we've signed up to help! |
