Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumHave You phone banked for Bernie Yet?
I have to admit I had some trepidation...
Being middle aged and not all that tech savvy, I wasn't sure about this new laptop/cell phone system, but I showed up borrowed laptop and my own cell phone in hand for my 2 hour shift.
Easy Peasy!!!!
There were practice calls with tech folks there to help. Great system! Easier and faster than the old days of having to self dial on a land line just a few years ago!
New friends and much laughter at the party! It is amazing how much education is needed out there and how much support for Bernie already exists and I am in Texas!
If you decide to host a party, you can get on site tech support volunteers and really multiply the good that you are doing!
Commit to working at least a couple of hours a week for Bernie! You will amaze yourself with how much you can accomplish!

(14,691 posts)a script? I confess I HATE doing phone work but I did it for Obama after I saw those young girls calling for McCain.

I used to do phone banking a few years back. I am impressed with how far it has come!

(1,448 posts)terminated the call. I didn't have time to say "have a Bernie evening." Fun doing the phone bank with new friends and listening when they made a good contact, or a bad one. Just know that they can't shoot you thru the telephone.

(10,170 posts)What a win that would be for the Democratic party!
(Of course, that would be 6 to 1 for Bernie on DU!)
If I talk to a Hillary supporter, I thank them for voting Democratic!
If I talk to a Republican who is undecided, I mention plenty of Republicans have supported Bernie as an Independent.
If I talk to an Independent, I mention Bernie is the longest serving Independent in Congress.

(2,161 posts)If I could be given a list and a script and use my land line phone, I'd be doing some calls.
But I read through the how to guide, and it looks like one needs more gadgets and gizmos than I have, and a better internet connection or cell phone service, too.
I'm happy to hear it went well for you.

(10,170 posts)Block walking is an excellent alternative! Face to face connections are VERY IMPORTANT!
Canvassing, flyering, tabling, etc, are many ways to contribute! Connect with your local Bernie headquarters on more ways you can help!
No reason not to use a land line with the laptop as far as I can tell. You could phone bank from home after learning how, I suspect. Others can chime in who know more!

(2,161 posts)Its quite the conversation starter. Some people who suport Bernie, some people who want to know more.
I live in a late voting state and will do precinct walking in the lovely springtime weather, lol. Admire the hardy folks in Iowa and New Hampshire.

(51,907 posts)15 people singed up, and 8 actually showed--but then again it's sunny and 52 degrees here.
Don't know if they were targeting older voters, or just people with landlines, but most of the people I called were between 65 and 75 (youngest 51 and oldest 94). About 1/3 undecided, and the rest roughly split between Sanders and Clinton. If the old folks are split and the younger ones leaning toward Sanders, I'd say this looks pretty good for Nevada.

(10,170 posts)Yeah, my folks were also surprisingly pro Bernie and most of the republicans that I talked to were civil. Just one crazy loon and we had a good laugh over her!
Had a very nice Vet who went on and on about how terrific Bernie was!
Plenty of undecided folks among the elderly to talk to!
Yay for you for doing your 2 hour shift!

(18,791 posts)But I always wear my Bernie baseball caps (I have 6 different ones...5 from Cafe Press and the 1 official cap) and mix them with his shirts (I've got white and blue) plus a BERNIE field bag (my man purse).
I have 1 sticker and 2 magnetic bumper stickers on my car (got several magnetic ones from Cafe Press and I rotate them every 2 or 3 weeks)...2 rally signs (FYI, the rally signs are 11 X 17 inches and can fit on color copiers...thus you can make copies if needed)...in my front windows and just today, put out my yard sign (it's the one that is on a metal frame and is actually like a vinyl bag that slips over the frame...got it from the Bernie store...it will actually be handy in that I can easily bring it in when it starts raining again in SoCal).
I have some business sized FeelTheBern.org business sized cards in my wallet and bag but want to create my own that I can give out.
So...that is what I am currently doing.
