Sen. Sanders Statement on the State of the Union Address

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement after President Barack Obama delivered his final State of the Union address:

“President Obama raised some enormously important points regarding the long-term future of our country – much I agreed with. Not only can we effectively combat climate change, we can create good paying jobs. Yes, we have to destroy ISIS, but we must do so through a coalition, and we cannot get bogged down in perpetual warfare in the quagmire of the Middle East.

“I also appreciated the president’s point that we need more civil politics, that we need to get big money out of politics, and that at a time of tremendous wealth and income inequality we must revitalize American democracy.”

And he sees what's backing you: Us.

He wants what is best for the country and he knows the American people can deliver, when given the chance. Heck, we got Obama elected, did WE not?

Thanks for sharing it here cal04.

I like how the President talked about a five year plan rather than a one year plan. And Bernie picked up on that. Sanders has raised a lot of points, and so have his supporters, that the President emphasized tonight in his State of the Union address.

I like how President Obama was talking directly to the American people and basically saying 'you need to take it from here and I'll be with you - I know you can do it.'

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, I think the President has also said that he won't endorse a candidate until after the primaries are over. I'm not sure if that's unusual or not. Maybe it's standard protocol. I think it's interesting though.

I am for Sanders and against TPP. But this is Obama's moment. Sanders will have many other opportunities to attack TPP.
