World's first legal Pastafarian wedding to take place in Akaroa this weekend

Noodles and nuptials are set to share centre stage in the world's first legal Pastafarian wedding, to be held this weekend on a commandeered pirate ship in Akaroa.

Toby Ricketts and his partner Marianna Young, from Totara North, will wed on Saturday, 16th April by 'ministeroni' Karen Martyn - the world's first legal Pastafarian marriage celebrant - in front of a crowd dressed in full pirate regalia.

Pastafarians are followers of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM), who believe that pirates (while miscast as evil) are actually the supreme beings on earth and that all modern-day humans have evolved from pirates.

Some of the comments are interesting:

Horrible if you are on a carb free diet attending this wedding. But regardless sounds like fun.

Pastafarianism copies much of Christianity, which in turn copied a handful of older pagan religions which copied others. If you think your God is the correct one, you are truly blind.

You know Pastafarianism was originally set up by Atheists to take the mickey out of organised religion, right?

Good on them. Much like a Christian wedding, the vows are about the two of them not the particular version of Santa Claus the religion is based upon. I'm glad they could have fun by sharing their mutual views on life and humour at their wedding.

Whatever floats your boat. These beliefs are no more ridiculous than any other religious beliefs. Just because they are modern they will be poo pooed by followers of Christianity and Islam, yet they expect people to take their religions seriously. Go the Pastafarians
