Guam on pace to meet May 1 'path to half' COVID-19 vaccine goal
Guam is on track to have more than 70,000 residents fully vaccinated within the next month, beating the governor’s goal of 62,500 people fully vaccinated by May 1.
The governor has said she will ease travel quarantine restrictions, starting May 1, provided at least 50% of the island’s adult population is vaccinated by that date. The administration has billed the goal as the “path to half,” and has said the target is 62,500 people, based on a total adult population of about 125,000.
According to the governor’s plan, arriving passengers with a negative COVID-19 test during the previous 72 hours would be allowed to skip the 14-day travel quarantine. If it happens, May 1 will begin the slow reopening of the tourism industry, which has been shut down since last March because of pandemic restrictions.
The airport plans to offer fee discounts to airlines, starting May 1, as an incentive for airlines to resume passenger flights from Asia. The airport, starting May 1, also plans to offer COVID-19 testing at the airport terminal for passengers who need to be tested before leaving island.
