Puerto Rican Government Certifies Nearly 1,700 -- Including 732 New -- Small & Midsize Enterprises

Gov. Ricardo Rosselló Nevares announced Wednesday that the Puerto Rico Commerce and Export Company has certified a total of 1,680 small and midsize enterprises (SMEs), with a projected creation of 5,750 jobs; of these, 732 companies are newly created.

“The largest number of companies were created by young entrepreneurs certified under the Incentive Program for Young Entrepreneurs through Law 135, better known as the Law of Incentives and Financing for Young Entrepreneurs,” the governor said.

Rosselló also noted that “among the business ideas developed by the new entrepreneurs are food trucks, graphic design, consulting services, restaurants, distribution of various products, agriculture and medical services, among others.”

Commerce and Export Company Executive Director Ricardo Llerandi Cruz said that “with the purpose of contributing to the development of a business culture among university youth, we have made seven editions of the Puerto Rico Emprende College Tour, a series of talks and workshops aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, in which more than 700 students have participated.”
