Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI just switched from "undecided" to Kamala Harris.
Someday a woman will be president, and I figure it's about that time.I think Speaker Pelosi is correct with her Own the center left, own the mainstream advice, and among the top woman candidates that rules out Elizabeth Warren, whose platform may or may not be desirable, but the Robin Hood-like idea to rob from the rich and give to the poor seems unlikely to sell and is probably unrealistic. That leaves Amy Klobuchar and Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris is my first choice and Amy Klobuchar is my second.

If Harris is our nominee, would Biden agree to be on a Harris-Biden ticket for the good of the party?

(6,206 posts)Biden/Harris would be a formidable ticket? We have never had a woman VP. Harris would then be positioned to become president next.

(29 posts)Joe would go along with that.
However the other way around may work on voters,,,,or if He gets the bid,,,it could be none running,,,a real stunner.

(2,208 posts)is it just me or is there something a little off about supporters of male candidates always suggesting that a woman candidate would make a good VP for their guy?
It's why I raised the point about why not a Harris-Biden ticket.
Has any male candidate's supporters been suggesting any other male candidates as their VP preference?
Hmmm?

(9,696 posts)Some are so quick to assign a female candidate the VP slot. VP is a consolation prize and is not a sure ticket to the presidency in 8 years. Harris, Warren and Klobichar are also doing fantastic work in the senate - do we want our brightes people wasting away their days in the VP office?
I think when it comes down to it, Biden would be most likely to pick a man for VP.

(2,208 posts)Well, based on the posts from Biden supporters on DU, if those are any indication, Biden's supporters at least want Harris as VP.
Sorta a "get the old band back together" thing I think. lol

(9,287 posts)His VP would have a stronger than usual chance to be POTUS. Since he made age 75 his life expectancy is 86. This would be the last year of his presidency.
...if you make it to 75 your life expectancy increases to 86.8.

I think this VP pick would be way outside the norm and not a consolation prize. I agree with you, that it may not be a sure ticket to POTUS but there is plenty that can go wrong with the health of 80 year olds.

(2,208 posts)Harris is an excellent candidate and in my bettting pool is the front runner to get the nomination. She should excel in the debates, she certainly did when she was grilling Atty General Barr at the hearing last week.
Watch Harris grill Barr during Senate hearing: 'Its clear you have not looked at the evidence'
As a Cory Booker supporter, I applaud her efforts for criminal justice reform, I hope she pursues that further.

(2,208 posts)Hey, someday, I hope, America will be ready for a Harris/Booker type presidential ticket. Right now, not so much. I have actually suggested a Harris/Booker ticket to friends and they, all democrats, told me that there was no way two African Americans could win.
Also, sadly, they kept suggesting tickets with a minority candidate as VP for a white presidential candidate saying it would "balance" the ticket, yet not one suggested the opposite pairing with a minority candidate as president and a white VP.
Change is coming, it's just not here yet I guess.

(4,223 posts)I still disagree because you're leaving the framing up to the enemy. Go on the offense and frame what she's ACTUALLY doing instead of giving into the reich wing's potential framing. You can seriously do that with ANY candidate.

(9,696 posts)Harris has a plan to increase teacher funding which I like. Warren is really great with not only having good plans but also communicating them in a very easy to distill style. I suspected the more people hear Warren, the more they will like her.
If Harris doesn't get the nod, I could also see her as Sec. of State. She would be good on the international stage. But please, please stop suggesting Harris for VP, that would be a waste of talent. And when was the last time a VP became a president: george bush back in the 80's.

Each of them have something important to say, and each of them are accomplished.
I am, however, ABB, "Anyone but Bernie," in the primaries, and, like everyone else, ABT in the general.
Other than that, I can't think of any example in our field who would not represent a vast improvement over the National Troglodyte,

(11,635 posts)Pelosi is again trying to keep the party from going to the left - as she does.
The way I see it - is the people on the left are the ones more likely to go vote than those in the middle - many of whom don't care. If we run someone too milktoasty (like Biden), some on the left might figure he is too much like a Republican (I don't think that - but I know people who do).
I expect to stay with Warren. Harris is my 2nd choice. And I like the idea of Warren / Harris - because it gets both coasts involved. I think those 2 are the shining stars.
