The very active right wing troll brigade would have you believe that Washington is second only to hell for livability. In my kinder moments I tend to think most of them have never lived anywhere but Eastern Washington and they just don't have a clue about how good we have it here overall. It gets old seeing them whinge on and on about taxes. If Texas and Arizona seem so appealing to them...We won't miss them.

Gee, the buses get to ride in the HOV lane

Seattle has missed the mark on this over and over again for years and years and now it's pretty much too late.

Other than that, it's a pretty good goddamn place to live

it is also not "seattle's" fault alone - the citizens of the county and state bear responsibility for thwarting previous efforts.

light rail is being built or extended in tacoma, seattle, and bellevue. the state ferries are mass transit, and have added passenger-only boats in recent years.

its going to work out!

And that other Seattle has a pretty good mass transit system. Even when I was out in the neighborhoods, the buses ran frequently and got me where I needed to go.

The folks who complain the most about our taxes are the ones who would benefit the most from an income tax. They are conditioned to being short sighted and tend to distrust any attempt to alter our tax structure. They complain loudly and derive a unique sense of self satisfaction blaming government and "Seattle" for all their woes...

I'm here in North Little Rock, Arkansas on training to be a professional truck driver; been here 6 weeks. I am probably biased since I've called North Carolina home for the past 20 years but the roads are better in NC than around here, there's more construction going on, the economy just feels better in NC, I hear good things about NC's schools... not so much in AR... Some of this is definitely my own gut feeling but AR is definitely a deprived state.

I’m impressed how easy it is to forget the problems there. But I have to say the joys are deep as well.

I am comfortable and educated and life is quite easy here in Seattle and while I wouldn’t trade it, there’s a juice in those places that has little to do with the advantages we have. It likely has to do with dealing with the lack of damn near everything that makes life easy. I wouldn’t go back, but I miss it. Funny, huh.
