Biden 48, Trump 44 in Texas, Quinnipiac University Poll finds

Quinnipiac University

President Donald Trump is locked in too-close-to-call races with any one of seven top Democratic challengers in the 2020 presidential race in Texas, where former Vice President Joseph Biden has 48 percent to President Trump with 44 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Other matchups by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll show:
- President Trump at 46 percent to Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 45 percent;
- Trump at 47 percent to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders at 44 percent;
- Trump at 48 percent to former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke with 45 percent;
- Trump with 46 percent to South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg's 44 percent;
- Trump at 47 percent to California Sen. Kamala Harris at 43 percent;
- Trump with 46 percent and former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro at 43 percent.

In the Trump-Biden matchup, women back Biden 54 - 39 percent as men back Trump 50 - 42 percent. White voters back Trump 60 - 33 percent. Biden leads 86 - 7 percent among black voters and 59 - 33 percent among Hispanic voters.

Congress should not try to impeach Trump, Texas voters say 60 - 34 percent.

"The data shows home-state hopeful, former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, is doing OK in the presidential matchup, but Democratic voters would prefer he leave the presidential campaign and run for the U.S. Senate," Brown added.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Quinnipiac University is in Connecticut, and as soon as Texans pick up the phone and hear that accent, they'll tell them what they need to get rid of them. Or, they'll just hang up the phone.

but we have a primary season to deal with. Joe Biden is unlikely to emerge as an unbloodied nominee, once the debates start, the target on his back will surely attract some well-aimed arrows. The general election campaign will be fierce, it will not be a cakewalk for the Democratic nominee.

If Biden is the only one polling higher than Trump, that means something important. Not in Texas, so much, but nationwide.

I would love to win Texas in the presidential race, but this is a good sign that Biden will defeat Trump in other states where the race will be somewhat close.

Thanks!

9. The Texas state party is excited

I have received both a text and one e-mail from the party. This is the header from the state party e-mail

A new Quinnipiac Poll released shows too-close-to-call races in Texas:
Biden 48, Trump 44
Trump 46, Warren 45
Trump 46, Buttigieg 44
Trump 47, Sanders 44
Trump 48, O'Rourke 45
Trump 46, Castro 43
Trump 47, Harris 43

Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country. This our moment.
We all know that once Texas goes blue, the Republican path to the White House will be blocked. Texans want leaders who will fight for them on issues like healthcare, education, and the economy. That's why Texas Democrats are poised to win.

The party has upped the amount that they are asking me to contribute which shows that they are excited

In February, we looked at Gallup’s approval rating polling for 2018, picking out an interesting detail. Of all of the states that Trump won in 2016, nowhere was he viewed less favorably than in Texas. His approval in the state was 39 percent over the course of the year, the sort of number that doesn’t slot easily into sentences like “Trump coasted to victory given his ___ percent approval rating in the state.” Perhaps something more like: “Trump’s ___ percent approval rating in the state was just too much to overcome.”

I mean, it’s not as though 2016 and 2018 were blowouts in the state, either. Clinton lost by nine points, though that was closer than the margin in Iowa, which in 2012 voted for Barack Obama. It was the closest the state had been since 1976, excluding 1992 and 1996 when Texan Ross Perot played spoiler. Last year, O’Rourke lost by less than three points.

Then there’s this new poll of Texans by Quinnipiac University. It has Trump struggling against a number of the Democrats running for the party’s 2020 nomination. He’s up only four points on Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) — and that’s the race in which he’s doing the best. Despite his relative success last year, O’Rourke loses to Trump by three points. Against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Trump’s only up one.

Against former vice president Joe Biden? Trump is losing by four points.

Because of the silly narrative that Biden is the best to beat Trump. Put Beto up vs Trump and he wins. Beto also FULLY supports a woman's autonomy over her own body...even when she is poor.

Biden's support of the Hyde Amendment is a campaign killer anyhow. We should not be surprised, though, because as soon as he starts talking he sticks his foot and half of his leg in his mouth.

His poll numbers against Trump are impressive. Double digit leads in many cases. Beto is no where close to that yet, although given time and more exposure he could get there. But that's not for sure and with Biden, he's already there.
